View Full Version : I think i've damaged my cartridge.
I've had an accident with my Dynavector dv20 cartridge :( Yesterday, while having a look underneath the cartridge, it slipped from my fingers, landing on my platter mat :doh: Now, when looking at the cartridge head on, the cantilever is right of centre.:doh: I've tried it on an old album, and it seems to play ok, but i wouldn't risk it on anything decent. I've been in contact with Dominic at Nortwest Analogue, and he's gonna take a look at it:rolleyes:
Not only am i also a BELL END, i can't sphell either!

Damn, bad luck. Hopefully Dominic can retrieve it for you. I took the stylus right off my first Denon DL103 being clumsy. Pissed me off big time!

Yep, been there! Not with a Denon, but with a Grace F15 cartridge. And it wasn't even mine - it had been loaned to me! :eek: The owner was remarkably understanding.

if the dv20 is newish might be worth speaking to the dealer?

It's about 18 months old now, so i doubt whether the dealer would do anything anyway. I got it from Audioworkshopnorwich ebay site, but it's been sent off to Dom at Northwest analogue today.

Happened to me with just a drop to the disc when cueing ! I had a play under the microscope and managed to un kink it but it was never the same afterwards.
The dyno has a sod of a soft holloe tube ally cantilever. Anyone considering buying one please take note. They do not take even light abuse .:rolleyes:

That's not what i wanted to hear! It's lucky i had a softish Origin Live platter mat for it to land on, otherwise it could have been much worse. I'm still waiting to hear the verdict from Dom at Northwest Analogue. :rolleyes:
I've had a reply from Natalie at Northwest Analogue. My cartridge has turned up, and Dom will take a look at it in the next 2 weeks :eek: I could use my trusty old AT110E, but it's that much off a faff fixing it to the headshell with it's silly nuts n bolts i can't be arsed with it. One of the things i love about the dv20 is its screw thread mounting system, which makes it so much easier to mount on the headshell. Looks like i'll have to get my music 'fix' from my cd's. :rolleyes:
Good news! Dominic from Northwest Analogue has contacted me today, he's repaired my cartridge. He had to make some adjustments to the suspension and coils, and straighten a bent cantilever! I'm really pleased, especially with his fee of £160, a lot cheaper than having to pay £500 for a replacement.
He also mentioned that when the stylus has worn, he can put in an uprated cantilever and stylus that would put the Dynavector in another league!

Will do. Dom said it should sound as good as new. With a bit of luck i might have it back for the weekend.:carrot:
My cartridge is back!:mex: But, they delivered it when no-one was in, so i will have to collect it tomorrow. Can't complain though, 10 days without it is not bad going, and it could have been a lot worse. Excellent service from Dominic and Natalie at Northwest Analogue.:thumbsup:

My wife works from home, and is usually around for most deliveries, but unfortunately missed this one. No worries though, Royal Mail is only a couple of minutes from where i work. Looking forward to some proper music this afternoon when i've finished work. Will let you know how it sounds. :)
All set up, everything double-checked, and sounding as good as new. Very very pleased. Thank you Dominic and Natalie. :clap:
