Hi guys, Just wondered what thoughts or experiences any of you have re: these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMR-Audiophile-Gold-Hi-Fi-Fuse-13A-UK-Mains-Plug-BOX-OF-3-/290800283726?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Power_Ca bles_Connectors&hash=item43b50c304e#ht_3246wt_966
I mean are they worth trying ? Do they make even a subtle difference for the better on some systems ?

I use 2 of these in my system . One in my mains block plug and one in my amp plug. They do make a difference . Worth the money IMO.

I phonosophie fuses in my mains block/ pre amp and dac. Appear very similar to the ones you link to. noticeable difference in the sound. Even my wife could tell the difference....

I must confess neither did I Andy . I bought one then another after the first one worked .:)

I use a mix of Hi-Fi Tuning and Furutech fuses. They certainly beat ordinary fuses, sometimes sounding as good as a power cable upgrade.

Brian, l was pre-determined thatl would be able to find no difference in sound( indeed only tried one as it was a freebie- so why not?) These were all Hifituning fuses, my last poncy fuse was a Furutech inside my intergrated amplifier- this bit is amusing- l googled these fuses and people had tried them claimed 100hrs burn in:mental:,so popped it in...mmmmm mild improvements across the board them after a while( did not keep time of when) then there was a further improvement in sound, so folk were right all along:)

Andy I may go down the road of trying one of the Furutech or Hifi tuning fuses after reading this thread . When funds allow :)

The AMR fuses are pretty good guys. At twelve quid a pop what have you got to lose? Uk plug fuses as well as internal all the same price.

I know it's very fashionable to slag off Russ Andrews, but his DCT treated proper 13A mains fuses do offer clear improvements, in my experience. On top of that, a pack of 10 fuses costs a relatively sane £23. See http://www.russandrews.com/product.asp?lookup=1&region=UK&currency=GBP&pf_id=1019&customer_id=PAA3021102512544FJDHYETPNDCESLZD

Well, the cynic in me says they can't possibly work. I'm more than happy to call snake oil and bullshit.

To that end I've ordered ten of the Russ Abbott's and three of the others.

Yeah, I know, sucker.

Did you need funny ones?

Martin. I didn't. He's about as funny as Lenny Henry.

I use AMR fuses in all the mains plugs but the one straight out of the wall made the biggest difference. Haven't tried Furutech offerings 'cos I'm not spending £60 on a fuse!

Robin, when you say the one straight out the wall. You mean from the socket to a mains block?

Right. The fuses have arrived. A pack of the cheaper Russ Abbott ones and three of the expensive jobbies.

I have right single sockets so what do people suggest I try first? CD player? DAC/ Pre or power amps?

brian2957

I would try the amps first Harry . Do you have a mains extension block .If so try that plug first .

Try them one at a time, might save you some grief, if they make no difference for you.

Hi Brian. I have eight unswitched single sockets with four mnp amps. Problem is I only have three of the expensive fuses but ten of the Russ Abbott ones.

Good to see that Russ has found a new career after showbiz work dried up. Presumably Bella Emberg is now selling custom stands and supports...

Well Russ Andrews' prices for some of his stuff means he enjoys having a laugh.

Maybe have to improvise Harry . I'm sure you'll hear some sort of difference using just the three fuses .

Well, they've been in the plugs for a couple of days. Perhaps there's a bit more bass. But I could be imagining that. I think there's no difference. Hadn't made things worse so probably worth a try.

Honesty is the best policy.
Perhaps eh?
Anyone raise that to a maybe?

Thanks Harry

No need to spend that amount, the hi-fi tuning fuses are the best I have ever heard and cost £35. The internal ones are called supreme, they have been known to improve the sound that much it was similar to up-grading the component itself (customer feedbacks not my comments)

So if I bought some of them I'd actually hear an improvement.

Couple of questions if I may:

Which components will benefit most?

What improvements should I be listening for?

Many thanks
Harry

your system is your system, you listen every day I assume, therefor can tell instantly if your favorite song(s) sound different, different as in better, worse or different, it can only be those 3 and the fourth is the same, no difference at all

experimentation with fuses is the same as with any other tweak, some bits of kit don't benefit others do, naim kit does as has been proven by all the feedbacks I get

I have them in anything that I could get the lid off, I won't say any more just leave you to decide if it's worth trying or not

thanks
