View Full Version : Overpriced tickets charged by aging rockers?
Not sure if this is the right place to post, but what do Members think of the extraordinary prices charged by The Stones to attend their performances?

For a group that haven't made any decent stuff for 30 odd years it's amazing they can still fill these places at a tenner a ticket let alone a ton+

I read an article about this in Mondays Evening Standard, they apparently sold out in 17 minutes and Ticketmaster after they had sold out were linking on their site to Get Me In, who were selling block A floor tickets for £15,400, so Ticketmster we basically touting for Get Me In. I wasn't really sure that could be right, so I just checked;

I also got an email this week from See Tickets who are selling room and ticket packages which start at £629.25 http://www.seetickets.com/Event/THE-ROLLING-STONES-HOTEL-PACKAGE-KENSINGTON/The-O2-arena-London/672082).
Its no wonder they sold out in 17 minutes for the fans, the promoters and seat agencies have all the tickets and are massively marking up already over-priced tickets. Its more than a p155 take Alex! I have luckily seen them twice already, once was free so I'm not too upset but if I was a fanatical fan I would be fecking fuming :steam:

I saw them a couple of times in the early '70s. Can't tell you how much I paid for the tickets, but I was a (graduate) student at the time, so it wouldn't have been much (certainly no more than £20).
What I find depressing is that these obscene prices prevent the current generation (children, and grand children of us 'boring old farts') being able to appreciate a group I/we grew up with.
Would agree The Stones have done nothing new since the early eighties, but even a few cover versions of their '60 stuff would give a taste of the sheer raw, strutting R&B (and that's proper R&B folks - none of your modern rap/crap) we all enjoyed then.
If the Stones cared, they wouldn't let ticketing agencies bulk buy seats. Clearly they don't. Why? Jagger and Richards are said to be worth > £80 million each!
It really is such a shame and as you rightly say Barry young fans have no chance of seeing them. I just don't understand it, how can they put on shows in Paris for £12 and then be party to this, it just makes no sense at all. Such a level of greed is quite obscene and does nothing to help the cause in persuading fans to buy music instead of downloading it free, this just fans the flames IMO.
It could be justified in security,insurance costs and medical teams and staffing to support the wheel chairs,walkers,canes and oxygen tanks for all the pencheners in the audience.
All major concerts have sky rocketed due to lawsuits,insurance,fuel costs to ship all the extra gear the Stones take with them.
I can't imagine them preforming for to meany more years and there health care and life insurance alone would break you or I not to mention all the meds they are probably on.
I'm glad they have had such a good run.

im probablg going to get smacked here but the what the hell... the rolling stones are $hit, everything I've ever heard from them has been hamshank, I wouldn't pay twenty pence to go and see them. Just my 2 cents.

If you have had a good listen to the triumvirate - 'Exile on Main Street', 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Let it Bleed' and still don't like the 'Stones then fair enough. Otherwise I would have a listen first before dismissing them so harshly. The previous stuff is a bit 'meh' and the later stuff, as you rightly say, is mostly a load of old pony. Although I do have a soft spot for 'Emotional Rescue'.
For a good live album check out 'Get Yer Yah Yahs Out.'
Well said Martin - I find it a shame that some people don't get the Stones, but I can see why. Seeing them live is a rather special experience, or at least it used to be and you always used to get your moneys worth too - not sure what the heck is going on here though.
I think there's probably more around that like them than don't, but I'm not sure they deserve to be called $hit ;)

i've been given all there old albums on 1st pressing mono, and have several later albums and regardless of how many times I listen I just cant get into them. Harsh, yes, but thats how I feel about them, no offence meant to others. ;)

They did a secret warm up in Paris other night and charged £12 (or was it euros). 02 prices are extraordinary at £300. Do they think all their audience are investment bankers? Come to think of it they probably will be in this case. 1982 tour paid £9 if I remember correctly for Ashton Gate Bristol supported by The J Geils Band.
Allowing for inflation should be under £50 so someone is making big bucks and it is probably a whole load of organisations as well as The Stones. I must admit if they were playing in Brum I would be tempted even at this money as they are going to get too old to continue sometime soon.
