great plugs for tonearm leads...
Yep ! So i've heard hence I've chosen them for my soon to arrive Yannis 423.5 tonearm cable. My hope is they are also better than the usual 'metally' plugs on the end of speaker cable and interconnects as I'm thinking of replacing those in my sytem with Eichmann plugs. Although it might be a bit fiddly I'm thinking it would be worth while - any thoughts ?
Excellent on interconnects - it's what I use (better than WBT's in my opinion). I've not tried their banana plugs, but I am tempted.

quite correct as the tone arm cable is nice and thin and solders onto the thin ground pin quite easily.
the speaker plugs are pretty good too, nice big thick piece of solid silver
I have put pairs on my website now as a few people have asked to buy just 2 instead of 4!

Oh, Are you saying they do Silver Bullets for speakers ? I was thinking the one for the tonearm cable, interconnects etc was suitable as speaker cable plugs too ? If i'm wring could you add links please Dave :)
they do copper ones and silver ones
http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/1341-large/eichmann-silver-bayonet-plugs-set-of-4.jpg
here are the silver ones (http://www.mains-cables-r-us.co.uk/loudspeaker-plugs/496-eichmann-silver-bayonet-plugs-set-of-4.html) (just noticed my site shows a picture of the copper but they are the silver ones for sale)

The connector for arm cables and interconnects is an RCA (phono) plug; you can't use these for speakers (well, technically you could but I've never seen them used and never come across any speakers that will take them) - you need banana plugs like the ones Dave pictures above, or perhaps spades.

I think I’m losing the plot as come to think of it I actually do know this :mental: My brain must be mushed due to upgrade overload

I am thinking about changing the banana plugs used on my Martin Logans as I have never really been satisfied with the connection - they always seemed a bit too loose for my liking.
What was the verdict on these Eichmann speaker plugs - any good or is there something better?
Marco - are you still using those Cardas spades from Hi-fi Collective? (£7.80+ VAT each: http://www.hificollective.co.uk/components/spades.html)
Also, any views on Z-plugs such as these?

Hi Jon,
Not wishing to denigrate any of Dave's products, but as much as I like Z-plugs (and I consider that they're better than many similarly priced alternatives), the conductor material is made from brass, and therefore a very poor alternative to solid-copper or silver.
As well as preferring spades to banana plugs, due to what I consider is the achievement of a superior mechanical connection (providing that they're used in conjunction with the appropriate binding posts), experience proves that removing as many brass-made connectors and sockets from your system as possible, and replacing them with solid-copper or silver varieties, is fundamental in allowing your system to reproduce recorded music as accurately as possible.
I've recently done this throughout my system and can't believe the difference it has made for such a small outlay!
The Cardas copper spades are good, but the opening on them is a little too narrow to be used with some binding posts, so I would recommend these new Gaofel (solid-copper) ones from YA Audio, available from Hi-Fi Collective:
http://www.hificollective.co.uk/components/spades.html
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4945/gaofelspades350.gif (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/gaofelspades350.gif/)
Those are superb and are only £20 for a pack of 4!! No soldering needed either. Use them in conjunction with the superb Cardas CCBP-S solid-copper binding posts:
http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/4412/ccbpsl.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/442/ccbpsl.jpg/)
...nip everything up nice and tightly with a ring-spanner, and you've got as near as possible to the perfect connection!
I also recently fitted these solid-copper RCA sockets to my Sony DAC (again available from HFC), with similarly superb results:
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/2840/rcacopper500.gif (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/24/rcacopper500.gif/)
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/7007/rcacopperparts500.gif (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/23/rcacopperparts500.gif/)
Superb and only £17 for two! The Rhodium-plated versions are also the same price. If you want the highest SPPV possible from sockets and connectors, then IMO, you can't get much better than these! :exactly:
Marco.
Incidentally, in reference to Eichmann Silver Bullet Plugs, recent discoveries have revised my opinion slightly on them.
Having conducted extensive comparisons (you wouldn't believe just how extensive!) between the siver Eichmanns and silver WBTs, using the same raw cables, I'm now of the opinion that the Eichmanns come into their own more when used with tonearm cables, perhaps due to the reason Dave mentions, regarding the ground pin, but the WBTs beat them in other areas.
Therefore, the silver Eichmanns remain in use on my Yannis tonearm cable (where they are undoubtedly superior to the silver WBTs), but in all other applications, I've reverted to using the WBTs, which are equally as superior to the Eichmanns in their own specialised areas.
Of course, as always, this stuff is system dependent, however, these results have been achieved in enough different systems (belonging to people I know) to convince me that there is something fundamental (and repeatable) going on, sonically.
Marco.

I like those Phono Plugs Marco, i have some in all Rhodium.. Love the non solderability (No such wurd) :eyebrows:
They're very good indeed, dude, and not too dissimilar to the much more expensive Furutechs, fitted on my Copper amp:

They're probably all made in the same place in China, just with different badges put on them! ;)

Thanks Marco, Gaofel spades it is!
Bearing in mind I bought my Logans and VTL monoblocks 20 years ago in Hong Kong, it will probably come as no surprise that they are bi-wired, which I gather is now out of favour?
I just checked the original invoice and I have 68 feet of speaker cable(!) - 34 feet of Space & Time Quantum I for the bass units and 34 feet of Van den Hul MC-352 for the electrostatic units, divided into four 17 foot lengths - I forgot how large our old flat was!
I have no idea if these cables are still considered to be any good but if they are, maybe I should reduce their length, then forget about the bi-wiring and see which of them sounds best?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks anyway, Marco. From a quick search it seems that the cables were some of the best available at the time and the Space & Time Quantum I was particularly well matched with the Martin Logans.
As I'm currently going through the system and sorting it out generally, I think I'll keep these cables in bi-wired form but tidy everything up by shortening them to a more manageable length and change the old bananas to Gaofel spades. At the same time I'm going to clean up all the connectors with Deoxit, as that seems to be the best?
I'll wait until everything that I currently have is sorted out and working at its optimum first, before I think about trying anything new, so I know whether any changes are really worthwhile.
Regards
Jon'.
My one worry with anything from China is, is it actually what it claimes to be? i.e are these really copper or actually brass?

does it matter what they are made from, it's what they sound like that matters:)
Lol... Indeed.
I guess to know for sure they'd have to be tested, but having handled the sockets in question, observed their quality, and having compared them sonically with the brass-made sockets, which were fitted before on my Sony DAC, and having heard the 'no-brainer' rather significant sonic improvement gained from the modification, I have no reasons to doubt that the sockets in question aren't solid-copper! ;)
Marco.

True enough.

Thinking about it a bit more, I do agree wholeheartedly.
However, there is a lot of talk on the conductivity of metals on your website. In fact, there is a whole paper on there devoted to the subject. :)
Anyway, they look good quality and I may indeed try them myself.

Yes quite right chief but I have come too learn myself over the last 2 years that conductivity is not necessarily a yardstick for sound quality, take the Furutech Rhodium plugs and FI-50 rhodium IEC, rhodium is a rubbish conductor compared to silver, copper and gold but it sounds bloody good with the right combination of cable!
Yup, but in both those cables, it's just the plating that is rhodium, not the conductor. The conductor is copper.
Rhodium is chosen primarily as it is very durable, and so not as prone to wearing as gold, which is important in its role as a form of plating, when protecting a high-quality conducting metal underneath.
Also, I've found that, sonically, rhodium can add crispness and 'sparkle' to the sound, which is sometimes welcome :)
Marco.

I wonder if the coating does in fact affect the conductivity of the iec? I've got one of those and it does indeed sound great.

Agreed. It's an interesting aspect of hifi imo.
I wonder if the coating does in fact affect the conductivity of the iec?
Technically it might, but it's unlikely to be to any audible degree.
What you have to consider is which is better (in terms of maintaining the integrity of the signal) between a tarnished solid-copper plug or tarnished gold-plated copper plug or socket (as let's face it, few people keep all their plugs and sockets continuously squeaky clean), versus an untarnished rhodium-plated copper plug or socket, as rhodium is much more durable.
Yes, the bare copper or gold-plated copper, as metals, are better electrical conductors than rhodium, but probably only when they are shiny new and squeaky-clean! ;)

OFC seems to mean "we can sell more of these now"!
I file a small spot on the back of any Chinese sockets to see what they are really made from. Brass and copper are a different colour; not sure how to check the OFC aspect, though.
