Glad you like it.

It took me 23 years to get a separate dedicated room and I have to tell you that it is 4500 cubic feet of heaven! The system plays everything from the smallest chamber works or jazz ensembles to the largest, loudest classical pieces i.e Mahler 8 with ease.

Many thanks for the warm welcome. The big horns need room to breathe and the room provides a near perfect environment for them - plenty of air to move! The WR's are 17' apart and the listening postion is 17' from the speakers - a perfect equilateral triangle, which provides a huge soundstage and puts the listener in the front row.

I am looking forward to contributing to some of the discussions on this forum.

You are right they look positively insignificant against the Westmonsters. Perhaps a big Musical Fideity 100w class A musical wardrobe might be more appropriate.

The Klipshorn owner in Northampton was me. I had them from 1995 to 2005 when I acquired the Westminsters.

Actually the Meridian kit works extraordinarily well with the Tannoys. Contrary to common belief Westminster Royals IMHO work best with high quality, high powered solid state kit.

I have had many valve set ups in my music room and beguiling as they were, they did not measure up to the Meridian. I listen to a very wide range of musical material and it is important that my system can deal even handedly with all of them. Delightful as they are valves could not really do this. They tend to have a slight bias towards mid range and treble and a slight lack power and control at the bass end of the frequency spectrum.

The efect of this with valves that the image was pushed too far into the room resulting in a forward, 'in your face' presentation. Interestingly this was consistent with all of the valves outfits I tried (around 10 in total)

One of the reasons I suspect that many pundits favour valves with the WR's is probably that they have never heard a properly fettled pair of Westminsters. The standard product sounds on the dull side and lacking in precision and gets worse with age. The reason for this is the very poor quality of the internal connectors. I have done a lot of work on this and as a result of my findings I modified the speakers by removing all the push-on automotive connectors and the Molex driver connectors , which are of Christmas cracker quality, and hardwiring them. I also removed the very poor standard support system and replaced it with custom designed stainless steel feet which I had made by a local engineering firm. The final change was to remove the very cheap brass binding posts and replace them with WBT 0710ag posts which are superb.

The combination of these changes totally transformed the performance of the speaker. It retains all of the traditional Tannoy strengths of musicality, sweetness, precise imaging and bass power and gains near electrostatic levels of clarity and bonecrunching dynamics and further bass extension.

Once this work was completed it was a complete 'no contest' between valves and solid state. (in my system and my room)
