No!
Not what our better halves call us
I recently looked at a price list of spares from a UK arm manufacturer (sounds a little fishy) and was taken aback by the prices, eg,

Set of Allen keys (3 per set) 18.00

This is for three ordinary hex keys.
So can anyone come up with finer examples of manufactures "Taking the Michael"
This should be fun

Not Hifi related. This one is cycling, my other passion. A tool to enable you to rejoin a Campagnolo 11 speed chain. A bargain at £130. I kid you not. Shop around though and you can get one for just over a ton. I got a generic one instead for £18.

And Campagnolo also do their own corkscrew for £118. Italians. They really know how to take the piss.

Check out how much a new plastic lid is for an LP12, ordered through a Linn dealer! Can you guess how much?

Worth every penny of £150, innit?

Now see how much one is for a Technics SL-1200.... ;)

I was once quoted £36.00 for six bolts with allen key heads for a linn LP12.

It's a fooking joke! Try asking how much it is to get one serviced at a dealer....

Returning to T/T lids, here are brand new ones for the Techy: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/technics-turntable-lid-for-sl1200-sl1210-mkii/205628-01/

So, £29 versus £150, for one with a Linn badge on it. I rest my case. Rip-off bastards!!

Howsabout this then? For the Mk.6; luckily I only have the Mk.1.
"Moreover, the prices quoted in this review do not include the Delphi’s acrylic lid. Along with the spring-loaded aluminium hinges, which are, naturally, beautifully made as well, that’ll be an additional £570 to you sir. Ouch!"

I'd love to ask them (Oracle?) for a breakdown of exactly how they arrived at that price...

But the hinges ARE lovely.

Its the tooling chaps.

It costs many thousands of pounds to set up for bending a quid's worth of clear acrylic into a lid that has only a limited market.

But considering that the dies for Linn ones were probably tooled back in the dark ages, its quite possibly still a rip off.

The tooling costs are written off by the accountants in the first year. Ooops!
