I'd say so. If you don't like it you should get more than that on ebay for it.

I've been away, so I missed this. Grab it - for 40 quid, you can't go wrong. I have a CR 1020 which was the next model up & I doubt I'll ever sell it.
Folks will tell you that the x00 range were better and maybe they were, but they're still lovely bits of gear and, ergonomically, some of the most fabulously tactile bits of hi-fi gear ever made.
The amp sections are pretty good - they can sound a bit thin if you don't watch what speakers you use though.

As i don't like the neat uniform clean cut look of these early Yammis in which yours & Chris's comes from...
I only have time for the Range that the 'CR500' came from which is a totally different Aesthetics, more my style.. The 'CA500/700' are totally sexy :)
Forty quid will buy you a good tuner with a grey sounding amp that isn't a patch on the previous CR800 unit. Just my thoughts of course, but I remember comparing both side by side at the time (yes, I'm that old  )

I have the schematic if you need it ? More 'modern' in design & build than their Marantz/Sansui contemporaries...
There are 4 fuses inside, two in the power supply & one per output channel but if they are all intact I would look at cleaning the input selector switch which is identical to those found in Cyrus 1 & 2. They are complete dust magnets & channel dropouts are very common.
Not a bargain @ £40 but if he'll take £10-£15 as is even if you cant fix it you can still use it as a radio/headphone amp/phono stage :)

£40 is a very good price but the channel issue does invite a bit of haggling.
