Hi Simon and welcome to AoS.

Been there and done that, I was cured by coming here ;) Box swapping can be fun, but only if you can control it and not let it spoil the enjoyment of music, mind you thats easy for me to say as I'm happy with my system. There a quite a few members here who are interested in file based audio and it looks like you are on the right track if you want to explore that here, as I am sure you will get some advice/opinions?

Anyway, have fun and what sort of music do you like to play?
