Today is Prog day at Petch Towers. I will be making the valves glow all day with IQ, Camel, Pink Floyd, The Tangent, Yes and when i swich me gear off i am going to travel to York and watch ReGenesis perform Foxtrot at forty.

Not everyones cup of tea i know but i am having a great day. The Ruarks are singing like a bird. it's at times like this it makes me really glad that i put so much time and energy into my Hi-Fi. It really pays off when you listen to something that means so much to you on it.

I went to an open evening last night to listen to Naim's streaming products and to be honest it all left me a bit cold. I am far happier listening to Camel's Moonmadness via my TT and valves. Such is life eh? sorry and all that, i am an old git nut i know what i like (No pun intended) Prog! I'll drink to that:cool:

Hi Martin , Parasound vs Chord , battle lines are drawn eh , be interested to know what happens?

Be careful with the shoot out. It may end in tears or even worse, dept.

The beautiful thing is: it can't! If the Chord wins, all is well at Taylor Towers. If the Parasound is mighty, I could buy a brand new one and possibly make a profit as the Chord is so pricy now and has great used value.

My early CD of Lizard sounds pretty darned good to me (excellent original recording I think). I wonder of the new releases sound any better? I think I have the original LP as well somewhere...

Yeh love it. The drum rolling on the back end of the title track sounds better to my ears on black stuff.. I'm not gonna say it's better as i hear some absolute details on the CD i can't hear as clearly on vinyl, just two different presentations..I can relax more to the Vinyl than the CD tho.. & there's obviously all that extra stuff on the CD/DVD set aswell as the 5CD box set, so you know everything is a must :eyebrows:

Each to his own, eh?
I can't hear any difference between spinning a disc or streaming via my Squeezebox Touch, but the latter means that I don't have a mountain of discs to root through to find albums to play.

Currently playing the 24/96 files of ITCOTCK, and it sounds great

I never felt CD to be a tactile experience at all and don't miss it now I've gone 100% over to streaming for digital. Vinyl on the other hand - that gives me all the touchy-feely stuff I need :eyebrows:

Fair enuff :)
I actually have had enough of digging through a mountain of discs to find the one I want to play, hence the server/client route.

Doesn't work with the spinny plastic squiggle discs though, and I still buy 'em new occasionally - Mr Fagens new one being a case in point :D

I get where you're coming from 100%.
With the vinyl side of things, I have an Okki Nokki on order, so my touchy-feely sessions should be more crackle free :D

I have woken up soooo many times with no voice and a very sore throat after an evening with Re Genesis on stage. Hope you had a great night!
The problem of so many knowing the entire catalogue so well and insisting on singing along to every track in a semi drunken state..

As soon as those imortal words were said - Suppers Ready, silence, followed by chaos.

Brilliant, brilliant nights out.

But do you have the matching sheepskin rug Chris?

Regarding the UK Jewel case version of the set, i find it slightly illogical..Being the Japanese edition all the card sleeves are replicas of the original vinyl sleeves:

- UK Island variant design, gatefold sleeve

- US stereo Atlantic variant design, gatefold pasted sleeve

- 1977 Argentinean variant design, gatefold sleeve with Spanish language text

- US Atlantic mono promo variant design, stickered pasted gatefold sleeve with 3 replica 'DJ copy monaural Not For Sale' stickers

- Japanese variant sleeve design, gatefold pasted card with die-cut wraparound obi strip

Just doesnt work with Jewel cases

Has anyone taken the plunge on the 15 disc version of LTIA due out on Monday?
Bit too much for me and I personally do not do 5.1, though the DVDA 2 channel maybe worth a spin?

No sheepskin rug, although once upon a time I had a mock sheepskin lined Levi jacket.

I agree with you about jewel cases not cutting the mustard - they look totally out of place with something like ITCOTCK.

Now I can't quite put a finger on it, but there's something that tells me that ITCOTCK is one of those albums that you like more than just a little.....:eyebrows:

Panagenic ITOTCK sounds better than the pink rim copy I have. 'From tapes approved by Robert Fripp'. Also have ISOP and new Lizard. All excellent on vinyl. Also recommend the KC catalogue on CD/DVDA (24/96) remixed by Steve Wilson.

Naim shmaim. Stick with the valves n black discs... The best.

Have a great day. I like the rock-prog more than ahem 'real' prog like yes and Tangerine Dream etc. Although the only ever Genesis album I've ever been able to listen to is The lamb lays down on Broadway. Carpet Crawlers has got to be one of the best tracks ever.

The early albums - Electronic Meditation, Alpha Centauri, Zeit and Atem are Krautrock - which I would class as a sub-genre of 'prog' but will bow to André's far superior knowlege here.

The albums on Virgin from 1973's Phaedra through to (say) 1980's Tangram are Berlin School electronic music.

The ones after that are bog-standard electronic/new-age or whatever.

Kosmische which is basically Experimental electronic moosik division of Kr*utrock.. The original line up of 'Electronic Meditation' inc Klaus Schulze (went on to drum for Ash Ra Tempels debut LP).. Kosmische is a fitting way of filtering all the electronic crap away from real mans music :eyebrows:

The first four albums are classed as Pink Years (OHR recurds)

Prog>Kr*utrock>Kosmische
