If the rest of the house was designed around that room, and it was specifically designed for not only listening to music but reviewing equipment etc, it as far removed from the average enthusiast's home environment as it gets.
Interesting yes, expensive yes, precise yes, ideal probably, practical no.

Great system if some of the accessories are OTT. Always been sceptical of those lifter things. Now that cartridge may sound great but how much I wonder does putting a diamond in the body add to the price? I have heard yet another must have piece of vinyl. Can afford that if not the system :).

Maybe if you've got that amount of dosh but I'm assuming you think that the same SQ can be achieved for a lot less. The speakers are generaly regarded as one of the world's best and the craftsmanship probably goes a long way to justifying the cost. I heard VTL amps at Whittlebury (not sure if the same pre used here) and they sounded superb. I'm sure you can achieve 90% quality for a fraction of the cost but still would require a large outlay. Also normal sized UK living spaces are more suited to smaller less powerfull set ups so this lot may sound less than ideal in our own homes.

I'm utterly convinced the same could be achieved for a fraction of the cost, bespoke, tailor-made components designed with the room in mind would be a good start. The components are indeed excellent but not perfect.

Well I'm not sure of the cost of those Wilson speakers, but if someone was prepared to purchase top quality drive units & build their own enclosures, I reckon they could be outclassed for less than £10,000 ;)

If I had 'money no object' to play with I would probably buy a Leben CS-1000P, a Leben Pre, a pair of Harbeth 40.1's and most likely keep my front end or something similar then throw the rest of my money at Paul Watson, to help further his fight in trying to save our oceans. If I ever win the lottery that's where a lot of the money will go ;)

There's no way on this earth I would spend 500K on Hi-Fi, no matter how much money I had.

but can relate this to the motor trade

You can buy a car that will perform well for 15K

or

A Bugatti for £1.5 Million that will perform better

.

Or use the clock in a mobile phone or a £50K Rolex

If money is no object the price of the system is irrelevant

I think I agree with you :) Half the fun is putting the system together on a budget, I just love it when I get a bit of kit for a stupidly low price.

What fun would there be knowing you could have any system you want?

Yeah, just imagine having limitless funds and STILL not being able to get your system sounding quite how you want it. That would drive me nuts, bet it happens though!

Perhaps we are better off not being stupidly rich after all :lol:


Though in reality I'm very happy with the sound I get from my system, not much to do now, just the speakers, & they'll be using the same drivers so nothing drastic is going to happen sound wise.
