Very nice mate, the only thing similar I ever heard was a pair of martin logans. How to they compare, am I even close?

That door leads to my hot water heater, so we don't go back there very often.
Yes, they sound a bit like ML electrostatics having a great mid range and very transparent and open sound stage, but a lot more dynamic range,,better in the lower mid range to upper bass, better jump factor. when you crank up a good live recording they don't run out of steam.
I am not knocking stats...they do certain things very well.. I have owned quite a few,, but I found they all fell short in the dynamics that make music pop. They inspired me to make my speakers sound the way they do... Greg

Planar magnetic speakers use a stretched thin plastic film attached to an open front to back frame. To this film is bonded aluminum foil conductors in an up and down pattern. This conductor is the speaker voice coil that connects to your amplifier. To the back of this frame is a perforated metal sheet( so sound can go thru ) to which many magnets are bonded in this same up and down pattern.When the music signal runs thru the conductor it creates a magnetic field that opposes and attracts the field set up by the magnets. The advantage of this type of speaker is its large light weight diaphragm is driven more uniformly and creates a natural large as life sound.
Since the sound radiates front and back when it reaches your ear it sounds more real..To some folks anyway..I would recommend seeking out a dealer to demo a pair. To see if they are for you. When I heard them 30 years ago for the first time I was hooked from the first note !

The two drivers at the bottom - are they just for the very low frequencies or do they extend through to the midrange?

Martin Yes..As mechanical transducers go they are simple in theory but in reality difficult to design properly. Kinda like a chocolate souffles.. just chocolate, butter, eggs and sugar but hard to do right !
The two 8" drivers are mid woofers and handle the upper bass..the low bass is handled by an 8" powered sub for each channel.

I had hoped to have them ready by now..but I am a small operation and pretty much do everything my self. I don't want to let them out till I am completely satisfied. I want them to have the core virtues of the larger model, but distilling down size and price and keeping these virtues is no easy task. With luck I would hope by late November or December
