Here are some pics of my newest turntable. Christopher Thornton of Artisan Fidelity restored the Garrard for me. With his expertise guiding me in so far as wood selection, plinth design and construction as well as tonearm and cartridge choices I have what I believe to be a world class analog front end.

Lovely - and nice to see a 401 plinth level with the top plate - looks SO much nicer like that. :)

Very nice indeed...

I also agree with Alex in that it looks so much better with the plinth level.

I agree, the flush plinth looks best too.

The gloss black is really neat:stalks:

Okay that turntable is making me want to sell my car and buy lots of vinyl.

It's got a better paint finish than my car!

Hey DiveDeepDog,

That's a fine looking 401. Very cool plinth design. You're to be commended!:eyebrows:

That's one of the best looking decks I've ever seen :stalks: You've given me ideas for doing the same in gloss white.

That looks superb, if Carlsberg made 401's they would look like that.

WOW....that is an awesome looking 401, I really should get mine up and running!!!
Can I just ask what you used to make the plinth, as its not too obvious with the piano lacquer finish.
Well done on the beautiful finish.

Thanks again for all of the compliments.

As far as the plinth specs, it would be best to get in touch with Chris at Artisan Fidelity to discuss. I'm just a happy customer!:)

Fabulous looking turntable. I can't see why you can't tell us what it's made of though. Unless it's made of solid gold?!?

I don't know the exact sizes of the various layers but I do know that there are several layers of cherry wood. Chris at Artisan Fidelity has done enough Garrard 301's and Lenco's that he's got a good handle on what's required to control vibrations and resonances.

That's really a very inviting looking room, as well. To have great gear is one thing. To also have a great looking room is another. To have both is a blessing!

It looks absolutely stunning. I bet it sounds great! :)

I once owned a 401 which was equipped with an SME 3009 II Improved arm and housed in an SME 2000 plinth system (which I recently heard described as a good planter) Unfortunately I didn't have the knowledge in 1972 to stop it rumbling and so I sold it. A move which I still regret. Such is life!!

WoW!! Beatlebum, that looks so retro, a super finish, I hope it gives as much musical pleasure as it does visual.
I want one!!

Some new pics of my system as it currently stands. The Herron VTPH-2 phonostage is an excellent addition to my system and the First Watt B1 Buffer preamplifier is transparent with no loss of dynamics, bass or midrange clarity.

All,

I just got off the phone with Christopher Thornton at Artisan Fidelity regarding my Garrard 401. My newly upgraded Garrard 401 is very near complete. :eyebrows:
I can hardly wait to get it home, settled in and playing beautiful music again.

After some serious discussion about Artisan Fidelity's new inverted bearing and platter upgrade, now available, its application to the Garrard 401 and the sonic improvements the upgrade provides, I sent the table in a few weeks ago. What I am hoping to realize as a result of the platter and inverted bearing upgrade is a further enhancement of the excellent drive and dynamics that my 401 already possessed and hopefully gain even more clarity, extension and sense of stability, while still maintaining the idler drive traits that I love.

I've asked Christopher to send over some pics to hold me over 'til I'm able to arrange pick-up of the table. I'll add these when I get them.

Thanks,

Tim
