After being in contact with Arthur K from Funk Firm over the last couple of weeks about their FX-1200 tonearm, he very kindly agreed to lend me a fully FF modded 1210 for a home demo, which I'm very happy to say arrived today.
In the box is a standard 1210 mkII fitted with the FX-1200 tonearm upgrade and the FF platter (in black). Also included is an Achromat, in plain white finish.
This will be side-by-side with my minimally modded 1210 (Standard arm with Cardas re-wire, Herbie's mat, sorbothane feet). Both decks have their standard power cables and original bearings.
No time to set anything up today, work and an energetic 1 year old have to come first, but hoping to get some decent listening time over the weekend. Will post some pics once everything is set up... and of course will post a report once I have had a proper listen!
Please keep us informed, Nick. Arthur is a fascinating chap to talk to and I've wondered how his FX-1200 tonearm might sound.
Nice one, Nick. Our enthusiastic ramblings seem to have tempted you to give Arthur's products a go. I doubt you'll be disappointed! :)
Looking forward to reading a full write-up (with pics), when you're ready - enjoy!
Marco.

Hi all - Apologies for the delay in posting my promised review of the FF modded 1210.
Unfortunately it looks like I will have to postpone to a later date.
The reason for this is simply that due to time pressures and lack of available demo units to send out, AK was only able to send me what he described as a 'hack' deck that they had knocking around the office. This was in order to be able to send me something to audition before his imminent trip to the US.
I agreed that was fine, but in the event, although my overall impression was positive, I didn't feel the 'hack' deck was representative of the quality of FF products. For that reason it wouldn't be fair to form an opinion based on it. I put that point to AK and he has agreed to send me a 'retail quality' deck to audition on his return from the US.
Once that happens, I will post a full report as promised. Thanks.
