Anyone for PONO

I came across a news item on higher resolution music on the Guardian website (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/shortcuts/2012/oct/02/neil-youngs-pono-change-music) which I found very interesting. But the comments section of that article is also worth reading.

Too few of us that care I think Stan, I admire his stance but I think the only thing that will topple iTunes and Apple is if they drop the ball themselves. They are too far ahead and its too ingrained in youth culture now. They either steal music or get it from iTunes, I can't see that ever changing in all honesty.

Thanks for posting, I had missed that but I did read about his position in Uncut Magazine recently, good to see it in a broadsheet now as opposed to a specialist glossy.

I mentioned the Pono thing back in April and I genuinely do believe it will prove to be popular in theory with a certain kind of listener....us lot for a start.
Whether or not i'd want to buy all my records and Cds again I don't know.

Would you need to? Only poor quality downloads would be worthwhile buying again surely?

I suppose it depends if it's a modern recording and the 24/192 is actually available.

I was pretty disappointed by the attitude of the Guardian article (if you call it that - more just some pessemistic journo airing his cynical gripes).

I think there are plenty of people out there who appreciate good sound. Unfortunately they seem to buy into the IDEA of good sound and still really don't get to experience it because it's not readily available. They get into vinyl for instance but for all the wrong reasons and play it on the shittest deck with the worst set-up through a terrible system (yet still shows off its qualities!).

Think of British food culture and how it's changed over the last decade or two - appreciation of food has really taken off. I think you would have found the same dispair from food-o-philes back then too.

You need something to kickstart the change - people have to experience good sound first to know that it is something they actually want.

I still believe you give people a chance to hear music they like on a decent system a lot of people are going to like what they hear. They may have other asperations but at least you giving people the opportunity to have that as a asperation latter on
