I just heard the sad news that one of my favourite singers from my younger years has passed away. The first prerecorded cassette I ever owned was by Andy Williams. I'll have to dig up some of his tunes and play them for old times sake.

His weekly show used to be fun to watch when I was young and his memorable and perfect voice a wonderful instrument. RIP.

It's many years since I listened to Andy Williams' singing until yesterday. What strikes me now is the way he times his vocal delivery, it's very deliberate, totally in time with the music, this results in a completely measured performance. Sinatra did this too. So much skill and "musical phrasing".

Good point and well spotted, The best singers sang / sing this way, Any decent singing teacher will train and teach this a standard. When a singer can phrase and time properly it emphasises and controls the beat and rythm of the music beautifully. In fact some of the best singers dont actually always have typically lovely singing voices but it doesn't matter when you can time and phrase, the music / song will just move you and sound great anyway as a result. :)

Spot on, Robert. You listen to and appreciate music in exactly the same way as I do :)

I also demand that my system portrays what you're describing accurately. Sadly, however, not everyone truly 'gets' what you're describing.

Yes the loss of Andy is sad. I grew up hearing his music and seeing him on TV. I liked him a lot, he was very talented and had a great voice.

It's a bugger getting old. One by one your heros gradually disappear.

I too liked Mr Williams. For me though Tony Bennett has a singularly unique ability. To my mind (ears) he just has such humanity in his voice. I like his vintage stuff best.

What's happened with the avatars Geoff? I'm bored with that one.

Perfect Marco and essential, You clearly get it !! What a joy when your system is portraying the music perfectly like this, It makes every penny you've spent getting your system 'right' so worth it, because the listening pleasure is just literally priceless :)

RIP Andy Williams. The reassuring voice of Christmas. I always prefered his voice to all of the other crooners of the ilk. His lagacy is there for us all to enjoy.

I also guess that Tom Jones (when singing ballads) could be classed as one of the classic old crooners.

Maybe Tony Christie, too?

Cohen is a crooner of a very special kind, in a category all of his own.
