Album Club has now had a few jazz based albums A Kind of Blue is probarly the most famous and influential Jazz album ever recorded. As well of having Miles Davis it has some of the most famous Jazz musicians recorded on it including Cannonball Adderley John Coltrane and Bill Evens
The album is entirely modality based and has a wonderful melodic feel to it. Not only has it influenced Jazz but classical and rock too.
The album has been reviewed lots of times so I if you interested check out the many reviews on the web
I hope you enjoy

Thanks John. Well, based on the description "A true classic" this will be my first 10/10 Album Club vote - very possibly the greatest jazz album ever recorded, and maybe one of the greatest albums ever regardless of genre. A regular listen here, superb. :)

10/10 from me too - it just can't be faulted.

I've played this to death since my teens & have never bored of a single moment of it, but every time I listen, I find something new.
And there's nothing else like it, despite everyone doing their best to copy it!

I have to agree. 10/10 for me too, I have owned the standard LP, CD and SACD. Best by far is my precious Nimbus LP pressing. Superb music, superb sound.

The only Jazz album I own, I shall give it a spin before voting as I haven't played it much.

Top marks from me, yes a true classic and for someone of my generation who grew up listening to a lot of the music this inspired, such as the more 'intelligent' forms of hip hop and breakbeats, I realise how sampled and hugely influential Miles was.

I'm currently enjoying the leagacy version on spotify, it sounds lovely through todays combo of dac destroyer, pioneer a400 and Ditton 15s.

Well I have just listened to this, but knew what score it was going to get before playing it, but I always play by the club rules so gave it a spin before voting.

This was the first Jazz record I ever bought and can remember the day believe it or not. I was in Stamford Music Shop in mid 74 and at that time I was into the likes of Bowie, Sabbath, Skynryd, Purple, The Doobie Brothers, Uriah Heep, Poco and Gentle Giant as well as the monster acts like ELP, Floyd, Zeppelin and Genesis - in those days I used to spend hours and hours in there, pouring over the record sleeves and chatting up the two very attractive sales girls (still remember their names too Mandy Harvey and Christine Straw!) They put this on for someone and I was immediately hooked and bought it straight away. My mates all thought I was mad until they heard it and I converted a few over too (not many though TBH). Those were the days, spending all day in a record shop listening to toons' and reading record sleeves.

Its timeless and I think it should be in every record collectors library - a perfect 10 here.

Nice one John.

Sorry to bore you all as well, but I just couldn't help myself, I had to go looking to see if it was still operating and it is. I have very fond memories of this shop. Looks like they don't sell many records now, in my day it was all records in the front and instruments out the back. Good to see its still trading though after all this time :)

I use to do similar in Shades spent many of Saturday looking at the latest imports then going to Tower Virgin and HMV to do the same. Unfortantly in Shades it was all hairy man that smelt a bit funny Lol

I will get my Classic Records 200g out later. A fine Jazz album which appeals to a wider audience. However it won't get a 10 from me as it isn't my fav or generaly favoured music genre and that is reserved for my all time favourites.....

OK it's an 8 from me - sorry to spoil the party. It's a great listen and obviously influential. Not my favourite genre and anyway prefer Brubeck's Time Out in terms of 'popular' jazz. So it can't possibly get a 10 even if it is regarded as a Classic album.

Full marks from me too. 10.

My dad always told me Miles Davis was shit and that I should only listen to Bix Beiderbeck and Jack Teagarden. Well sorry dad, I don't agree. :eyebrows:
