Cheap vinyl system for a friend

Hi all, my mate is looking to buy a cheap system starting with speakers £300
tops any recomendations something with a tight puchy bass, i was thinking
castle, or rega ella, i used to have a pair of b&w dm110i which i thought were
great but it was a long time ago. modern speakers dont seem to do bass cheers phil.

Regarding speakers and low bass, it may be possible to still get a brand new pair of Celestion F28's for one hundred and fifty quid via ebay. These are light maple coloured floorstanders though so may not be what you are looking for. They certainly produce some nice low bass though and do a fab midrange with a valve amp. The treble can be a little bit edgy though but nothing to worry about unless you are comparing them to a nine hundred pound pair of mini monitors.

I've used these speakers as a stop gap for about a year now with an Icon Audio Stereo 20PP and I am well impressed with them. Sorry I can't help with the rest of the system though.
