I'm going tomorrow - I hope it is better than the exhibitor list would suggest :(. I sorted out my ticket before I actually looked at what would be there - a couple of things take my interest, but I'm really not sure there is enough to warrant the drive (or the cost of the petrol); if I didn't already have my ticket I wouldn't bother.

Worth the jaunt surely for a peak at what new vinyl Diverse and Stamford will have, if nothing else?

I've just had a proper look at the exhibitor list and it is very thin indeed! No Absolute Sounds, no Audio Freaks, no KEF or B&W, No Linn or Naim (or Focal) - even Nordost aren't bothering and they normally go to everything and anything!

I can't see it lasting another year - Si is going today, if he says it is shit I'm not bothering - I would rather spend the petrol money on a couple of records and a decent lunch.

Both Diverse and Stamford have good enough websites, I don't need to drive half way across the country to see what they have :(.

The only time I attended the Whittlebury show the cheeky bastards tried to teach me (and a room full of people) how to listen to music.

I left the room after a couple of minutes, vowing to never ever go near them again.

Lol... You and I obviously have very different interests, as none of the above (apart from having a quick listen to what Naim are up to these days, and saying hello to the guys), and maybe Audio Freaks, would interest me.

I'm more into the obscure stuff that the smaller, bespoke-orientated companies exhibit, particularly where it involves valves & vinyl. Looking at the list, there's a fair bit of that stuff there, so chances are that if I went, I'd find it interesting.

For me though, there's nothing to beat flicking through boxes of vinyl 'in the flesh'. I buy almost all my records that way, but I guess that's the benefit of having access to many independent records shops near where I live ;)

Ab Sounds' better dealers can get half decent sounds out of the portfolio in all fairness, but the shows I've attended over the decades have had loads of punters queueing up and subsequently raving over a truly horrendous sound, the appeal being the price tags and acres of bling :(

Await your review with interest Al. There was a sparcity of exhibitors in my view considering this is the National Show. A few interesting ones but far too many ultra expensive systems or display only exhibits. One dealer dem was especialy good (Right Note). Ultra expensive though (150K+) but at least set up to get a good sound.

Linn / Naim where represented in the guise of Cymbiosis - still sounded pish. Icon Audio products look fantastic quality for the money but mainly display and system playing in the background when I was there. Interesting new TT product from Inspire. The Classic Albums session utilised a fine sounding set up from Loud and Clear. VPI Classic 3 / Moon Amps / ProAC Carbon Pro8 Speakers.

Anyway found the Sundazed / Quality Record Pressings 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters' in the Diverse Vinyl racks.
