Is it better than the previous model?

Is it better than the previous model?
The BDP 103 has twice the video processing power as the previous model, faster boot-up and faster load times.
It also upscales to 4K, can convert 2D to 3D, and has dual HDMI inputs so you can connect a set-top box and take advantage of the OPPO's video processing.
All very impressive considering there is no price increase!
Hi Mark,
Do you 'tweak' them too, as you do to the highest sonic standards, with CDPs and DACs? :)
I still can't find a DAC anywhere else (at any price) that sounds as good as my modded DAS-R1 - and believe me, it's not for the want of trying!! :eyebrows:

Hey Marco
There will be Audiocom Reference and Signature versions of the OPPO BDP 103 with custom linear power supplies and very accurate, low phase noise clocks. See here;
OPPO 103 Signature (http://www.audiocominternational.com/custom-blu-ray-players/112-oppo-103-signature.html)
The modified DAS-R1 is a tough act to follow; the TDA1541 S2 sound is quite unique.
One of best stand alone DACs I have used is the Weiss 202 with the ESS ES9018 Sabre DAC. Admittedly to start with I was not too impressed with the 202, it took a week to come on song then sounded magic.
Best,
Mark
Ha - Knowing you, I thought you'd have a judiciously tweaked version of the Oppo available for your more discerning customers! ;)
The DAS-R1, unmodified, is a pretty good DAC, but with Audiocom mods it is something very special indeed - and it's the latter which makes it such a tough act to follow. You're right, it's those TDA-1541 S2s that give it a rather unique, and to many, very desirable sound.
However, I'll bear the Weiss in mind for future reference... What is it, about £4k? :)

Hi,
The UK price for the WEISS 202 is around £4600.00.
Another one to look out for is the OPPO's forthcoming BDP-105 universal player, it too uses the ES9018. The 105 has 3 digital inputs so you can use the players DAC section as a dedicated D/A converter.
UK price for this player is £999, so you get stunning Blu-ray player with a high performance DAC at less than a quarter of the price of the WEISS 202.
Mmm... One to ponder!
Marco.

Mark , do you think that you will have Reference and Signature versions of the BDP-105EU too ?

Sorry to thread crap, but Marco, do others that have heard your dac also regard it as highly as you do?
Lol - you'd have to ask them, dude, and it's a rather long list of people!
I think the consensus of opinion would be that it's a very capable DAC. However, the most important thing, in terms of my own system, is that I myself (based on my own tastes) have yet to hear a better one.
I'm sure that there are a few contenders out there, though :)
Marco.

Hi,
Yes, we will have BDP-105 Reference and BDP-105 Signature players ready around the same time as the 105 launch at the end of the year.
Prices and specification are TBA but we expect it to have all linear power supplies, discrete regulation for the audio section, very low jitter clocks, key component upgrades, etc.
Best,
Mark
