Not an iPhone, but an 'interesting' way of dealing with Apple 'bling' :eyebrows:

I quite like this one too :)

I rather like my Samsung Galaxy S2 piece of shit.

It also does something that the S3 doesn't, and the Apple stuff never has, and that's call rerouting via my router, which is vital when geography conspires to deny you a carrier band (as it does where I live - there's a mast not more than 1/4 mile away, but hillside between the transmitter and me).

I'm happy with my '4' but if it came up at the end of my contract I might be tempted. It was the loving care in the unboxing video that made me chuckle :)

Sounds like a good feature for you, although if you're on Vodafone, they can do this for you on any 3G phone.

I've purchased several Samsung products (PC monitors, a TV and the S2) and been sadly disappointed with all of them. I won't be buying any more Samsung products.

Also had an Android ICS tablet on home loan for a month and no one liked it. It just sat there, unloved and unused.

On the other hand, I've bought 2 Apple products and have been absolutely delighted with them both. In fact, there is no adjective to describe how much I love my iPad. It's the best product I've ever owned.

I have similar feelings toward Samsung ... And frankly most other electronics manufacturers .. Everything feels so flimsy and plastic!
Of you watch apples videos about its products, which I do (the are marketing genius apart from anything else), Johnathan Ive always comments on "how it feels in your hand". Ignoring the marketing subtext of such a comment for a second, he is very right! I think this is what a lot of apple fanboys actaully really like about the products (some possibly without even knowing)... They just feel solid, there is obviously a lot more thought that goes into the product design.
At the end of te day, I couldn't give a toss what people buy or why... Each to their own! I'm sure there are a million reasons to buy the latests samsung htc windows s453 blahdy blah. But I like the glass and metal on my iPhone, the barely a cm thick and still shit hot MBP ... I might have paid one hell of a premium for products that are still made in china ... But at least what I have doesn't feel like I could snap in two! And it all works...

I saw a video about the Apple development facility and their ethos towards their design team. When they have a prototype it's given to literally hundreds of these people for a few months of personal use to get user satisfaction feedback to fine tune that experience, so it's happening through a very insiteful and considered process.

We also returned the Samsung Galaxy because we simply hated using it

I was talked into the Galaxy S2 by a salesman, who gets a bigger commission for switch selling alternative products.

That and the fact that they offered me the S2 for only £8.33 per month on a 2 year contract  For a phone that had been launched only 2 months before, I guess they felt that they needed to give it away to tempt people?

Each to their own people. If you prefer the open ecosystem of Android or the closed but highly consistent iOS you make your choices. As someone who has bought into Apple since OS X came out I've been pleased to see how they've bounced back from near bankruptcy in the late 80's.

It surprises me how aggressive people are towards Apple when all they're doing is producing things people like to use

I like it.

If you want to see how good Samsung quality is, have a look at this review from Android Police. There are a couple of videos in the middle that made me laugh.

 Yes, that's the best one I've seen yet.

Can you think of any other product/manufacturer that has gained so much airtime, column inches, conversations/arguments, people queueing, competitors shitting themselves etc?

The only things I can think of are the Rubik cube and Tracy Island toy, when there was a rush to buy them for xmas and stocks ran out.

Anyone think of anything else?

The really funny thing is that Samsung supply quite a number of the important parts (chips and screen) of iPhones, though I don't know about the 5.

It's made by Sharp, as far as I know. So the same quality as HTC and other good brands. I have never been able to fault HTC's build quality, having owned quite a few going back to the original O2 XDA.

Certainly the HTC One I have from work has excellent built quality.

Nice slim design, 1 piece aluminium case, over 4" high res screen, 8 mb camera, 1080p video, video conferencing, 1.2 duo core processor...

A bit like last year's HTC Sensation then

...Oh apart from full browser 'Flash' capability, FLAC playback, a TI 192khz DAC, Full Google/Gmail/Documents/maps integration, and a 64Gb SDHC card.

Keep going apple, you're getting there...slowly! ;)

The iPhone is not made by Sharp. I believe that sharp have a new contract to supply some of the screens to Apple for the iPhone.

Not a problem for me, a my iPad doesn't go further than the garden ;) but others might get lost.

There's no YouTube app for the iPad :( you have to use the iPhone one at 2x magnification, which is not as good as before.

No doubt they will get it sorted, but I am surprised they let it happen - I wonder what the real story is?

Out of the 5 billion or so hits (OK a bit of an exaggeration, maybe only 4 billion  ) it is the most pointless but it answers the question! :ner:

Actually I did see it on an iPad this week in the states, a colleague was 'flying, roof top level' around LA on his iPad, the rendering looked to be very good.
