Which year do you reckon was the best year for album releases?

Put the case forward for the best year in music by naming just five albums that make your chosen year stand out head and shoulders above all of the rest. The albums can be eligible for their musical content or because their release represented 'an event' or became important for non-musical reasons.
You may be asked to defend your choices!!!!

Anyone violently opposed to a particular year can counter the claim by naming five albums that are so bad that they cancel out the good ones!

You'll find lists of notable releases for most years on the Wiki - try Googling, for example, '1984 in music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_in_music)' & that'll bring up the relevant page.

So, to start things off, I'll propose 1967 as the best year in music.

Albums:
The Velvet Underground - 'The Velvet Underground & Nico'
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - 'Are You Experienced'
The Beatles - 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'
Pink Floyd - 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn'
Love - 'Forever Changes'

Wow - this is a tricky one

Many of my favourite albums seem to have been released in 1972:

Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue, Dave Brubeck - Time Out, Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um, Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come, Ella Fitzgerald - ...Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book

1971/72, not for any particular album, but for when The Old Grey Whistle Test grabbed me, and changed my musical exposure, perspectives and interests forever....
