I've decided to part with the old girl at last. A cracking amp this, particularly if you are into rock, hip hop or electronic music, although she'll have a fair stab at anything really. Lots of upgrades here as you can see in the photomigraphs. Only getting rid of the old girl because she has been supplanted by the young, upstart Mini-T amp from Amptastic which is a better match for my speakers.

All the elctrolytics have been replaced with gourmet items: 18000mf power supply caps from Nippon Chemicon replace 10000mf original items and the two PC19 driver boards have been upgraded with various caps from Dayton, Nichicon and Nippon Chemicon.

The original Hafler power chord has been replaced with Belden 19364 which in turn has been terminated with an MK silver plated mains plug, and a more substantial cable protection device has been fitted. Neutrik RCA sockets replace the extremely naff original nickel plated items and quality, gold plated binding posts now adorn the rear panel.

There are a few marks on the case but nothing major, the worst being where something has been stacked on top of the amp at some point in its life, however this won't be visible if it is to go in a rack.

And a bargain, with all the mods being done.
David Haflers' designs are legendary for good reason, you may regret selling it Dave.

I'm thinking of trying a power amp in my setup (see below).

What do you reckon?

Cheers,

Thanks guys... ;)

I will throw in a brand new gold plated Furutech IEC socket for those who might want the facility to use a mains cable of their choice... :)

Why don't you put it on fleebay with a starting bid of £140? I bet you that you get a lot more for it. I don't quite understand why you are practically giving it away .

I wish you'd put this up for sale a month ago i would have been very tempted, but I've just spent this amount on servicing my Quad power amp .

John

Maybe I would Stan however the market is very fickle at the moment, plus there's always the chance it might fall into the hands of an asshole. For some reason the HiFi section on ebay seems to attract them. I'd rather it went to someone on AoS anyway ;)

The Hafler arrive today.

Plugged it into the pre-outs of my Exposure 2010 s2, lit the blue touch paper and stood back.

It's quite an agricultural-looking thing, so I was half expecting a rough 'n ready noise from the speakers.

How wrong I was :)

The first thing to hit me was the power of the bass and the overall smoothness. There's a real whump to the bottom end that's lacking with the Exposures built in amp.

I guess it's more of a vintage sound and its very appealing indeed.

Switching back to the exposure amp felt like a step backwards. So, it looks like the Hafler is going to stay around for a while.

So, cheers Dave, thanks for the great amp and great service.

Somebody at CityLink needs a good :spank:, I told them not to deliver it 'til tomorrow. Ah well, at least you were in when it arrived. For sure the Hafler won't win any beauty contests but beauty is in the ear of the beholder. I'm glad you are happy with it Martin, enjoy ;)
