I've gone Quadraphonic
Picked this up recently , it's a Napolex QA-10
Found this on the web
" The NapolexQA10 Quadraphonic Adaptor allowed users to add a second pair of speakers for surround sound duties while switching allowed
A choice between stereo 2 channel and
A 4 channel 'surround’ or 'hall' effects
With the Rotary Knob setting the rear levels. "
And its made in JAPAN so must be good ;)
Looks like this
Great little curiosity that. Must be from about 1970.
It looks to be well made although the nasty, spring loaded speaker terminals would limit you to fairly modest speaker cable. Nice find though Al and it is in terrific condition ;)

The best Quad transfers I've heard have been taken from 8-Track carts played back on converted 8-track open reel machines.
This is a good page for what's out there...

Al,
I think that's a stereo machine. You'll need a proper Quad 8-track to listen to all four channels simultaneously.

Is this unit what used to be called a Hafler effect unit? If it is, then it simply takes the outputs from the 2 positive speaker terminals and runs it round to 2 rear speakers wired out of phase with each other. You can bleed a little to ground between the rear speakers via a volume control, to increase separation. I used to do this in the '70s, and it can be very good, depending on room and speakers. You need speakers with not too much bass, or it will cancel. I must try it again sometime.
