New portable music player

Yup, I'm afraid that time has arrived, so I've come to the experts. My 16GB Cowon S9 no longer has enough space. Please can I have a recommendation for a player 64GB and up, with bluetooth (because I use bluetooth headphones) and FM (or DAB)? All my files are FLAC. Many thanks

HTC Sensation, with a 64 Gb SDHC type ultra, plays FLAC, has bluetooth, and a TI 192khz DAC...Has FM tuner, and using Tune-In app has access to any digital radio station

Oh, and it makes phone calls too... ;)

TVM for your message and sorry for the delay in replying. I might investigate this although I *definitely* don't want another phone. I suppose it's unlikely that it will be reviewed anywhere as an serious audio device and, being a phone, it's probably rather expensive to buy. Hmmm...

You can get the Archos 48 500G media player cheap now for just £130 bundled with the docking station and DVR (Digital Video Recorder) Snap-On. It's a bargin at the price. Some people love Archos gear - and others hate it! Customer service is apparently rubbish.

Good call Mr K! Incredibly cheap and it seems to be the ideal holiday companion. In the mean-time it can double up as a bedroom video recorder (no, not that sort:rolleyes:) and web-surfer. At your recommendation I just bought one so I'll complain to you later if I don't like it ;)

The only drawback I can see is that you can not load it and charge it at the same time. Loading 500GB of music on it would be a real bore.

You can actually charge it and load files.

Problems:

Battery life is claimed to be 7 hours for vid and 22 for music. I returned 2 48s back to the shopping channel QVC at the start of the year where I got mine (£199) with poor battery life. The third one I have now is probably the worst of the 3, but I just kept it. Don't be surprised if it won't appear to fully charge.

You have to register it to use the file management system - don't ask me why. I just don't understand the logic. You never had to wih previous models like the the 604 and 605. The FM radio doesn't work unless you register as well. Again, I just don't see why.

To get the sound settings, you have to plug the headphones in. The supplied headphones aren't much to shout about.

Mine took 3 1/2 months (honest!) of light use for the sound to burn-in.

Apart from that - it's pretty good - if you get good one. Nice screen.

Forgot to mention out of the box it plays AVI and WMV video files and MP3 and WMA audio files. For everything else, you have purchase plug-ins.

Thanks Stephen - I have actually ordered one. I'm pleased to hear that you can use it whilst powered up. That is the main drawback of my other holiday toy - the otherwise excellent iAudio X5 - which is starting to worry me with battery issues.

I was a little concerned about the scanty information on audio formats but the (on-line) manual does say that it does WAV. With a 500GB memory, WAV would be acceptable but I have noticed that the Archos 5 firmware update allows it to do FLAC etc. Assuming the Archos 48 firmware achieves the same, that would be ideal. It does appear to be the same machine but without GPS.
