Ive gone and bought a 3012 for my garrard 301 I'd some recommendations for mc carts, I may even try mm. I've been a bit of a ortofon junkie in the past, I've heard Shure carts before and wasn't really impressed. Currently I run a audiotechnica cart so any other suggestions would be most helpful

Obvious choice for me would be a re-bodied DL103R...the 3012 has the mass to support it.

Is that a "classic " combo with the 3012?

As in ortofon?? I'd like to try something a little different than ortofon if possible.

Don't know if it's a classic combo but the high mass of the 3012 is suited to the 103 and given what I hear with mine in a 9" arm I think you would like it. Just MHO.

Why not bite the bullet and go full throttle for an AN IO /Shelter (any of them!) or Zyx? The arm and deck are more than capable of exploiting some serious performance from a good MC. If it was my choice I'd plump for the AN IO (even one of the older models re-tipped sounds great!). One of the most neutral and transparent sounding MC carts I've ever heard.

EMT XSD-15 (if you can find one).
