Recommended guy to fix amp

Can anyone recommend someone in the berkshire area,who can do repairs on amps please.

I don't think it is worth me sending it out to a authorized service dealer.

Earlier tonight i though to myself,the paradigms have XLR inputs i could use them in the mean time.So having a butchers round the back of the speaker,i thought i would try it one more time,with the rca inputs.

voilà,the speaker was working :D

I'm not sure what i missed the first time,but it seems fine now,well apart from the led light not working.

Now do i dare attempt to fix the led cable myself :scratch: :lol:

Yeah your probably right,i was just wondering,if i happen to drive them too hard,would i miss the fact that the led would turn red and that i need to back off a bit?

I guess i could just go off the other speaker in that situation.I have found out there limits in that respect anyway,so pretty much know how far to push for those times when the neigbours are out.

Out of interest mark,would adding a sub,enable me to play the main speakers louder?

I love what these speakers do,but at times i could do with more bass and a bit more volume,they're only mini monitors ,so have there limits!!

You'll only be able to play the main speakers louder if you don't feed them the full frequency range ;) IE, there will be bass they probably can't reproduce, though they'll have a stab at it... The thing is if they can't reproduce it, they simply be sapping amplifier power & making the bass/mid driver move more than it's linear excursion.

If you could prevent really deep bass being fed to them, & feed it to a sub or two, then yes, you wouldn't believe how loud they'd probably be able to go :eek:

As for the light thing showing you when it's clipping, I reckon you should be able to hear it. You see with an manufacturer built active system the first distortion you will hear will be from the amplifiers (unless feeding the speakers silly low frequency bass :lol:).

So if you hear something not as you'd expect, back it down a tad.

No fancy LEDs have ever saved anything I have ever owned, just my ears have ;)

Ahh cheers for that mark,wasn't quite sure.I don't think i'll be able to get the matching sub now,so will go for one of their current items.

It's all a pipe dream atm though and will be quite awhile i imagine,till i get round to getting a sub.

I'm not overly concerned about the led to be honest,just glad i don't have to spend any money fixing them!! They have protection to stop any major damage anyway,right i'm off to watch a film,night yall.

Mmmm, I like Paradigm kit :) Using a sub of theirs as I type, though it'll be blown out of the water when I finally get these four CSS SDX15 in enclosures, in fact one would severely kill it :eyebrows:

DSP 3400 :) It just adds to the stuff below about 30Hz that the main speakers cant reproduce at the correct level.

These are the specs of the speakers,regarding frequency range.

35Hz-22kHz, ±3dB (±1dB over most of the audio band)

A quote from a reviewer from sterophile said "the speaker appeared to give full measure down to 40Hz, with a useful amount of 32Hz audible. Below that, however, nada"

So where would you ideally bring the sub in? Or is it a case of trial and error to get the best match?

Well from what I have seen, most subs have a crossover that is variable & the lowest frequency selectable is generally about 40Hz...


So I'd suggest that as a starting point :eyebrows:
