Illogical Dislikes

Cannot explain why, but I have a distinct dislike of "dual concentric" loudspeakers like Tannoy, and those things from Kef.

Anyone here suffer from this kind of thing for no good reason?

However, have you ever heard a pair of big DC Tannoys, for example - say, 12 or 15-inchers? :)

Indeed I have, many years ago the guy who ran the local electrical/record shop had the biggest corner standing single Tannoy I have ever seen in the flesh, it was back in the early days of stereo Hifi, so a lot of people were still on single speaker mono. I should point out I was a young kid back then!
It sounded wonderful, but I still have an illogical aversion to them! :scratch::D

S'ok, that's cool. I have a similar "illogical aversion" of panel-type electrostatic speakers, such as Martin Logans, etc, with big tall 'meshy' bits on top and a huge woofer underneath. To me, they just look utterly wrong, or 'boggin', as they say in Glasgow! :D

I don't like CD players or tape decks were the drawer is in the centre. Just looks wrong to me. Also upside down speakers with the mid bass above the tweeter. Not 'cause of the sound or anything, it just irritates me to look at them.

For me ......

valve amplifiers using massive transmission valves. The sort of amplifiers that look like when you switch them on they are go to go bang like a nuclear bomb. I would also include OTLs in this as well. Never had one do that but still.... illogical dislikes

I hate non-symmetrical speakers. In fact anything non-symmetrical, it is one reason I could never drive a Volvo - that non-symmetrical diagonal line across the grille... Also one reason I want a nice Georgian farmhouse - the Georgians knew how to do symmetry. Totally illogical. :)

I also hate it when it's hot in this country, it's always humid so sweating doesn't cool you down like it would where the humidity levels are low & it's hot.

Anything above about 25C & I find it uncomfortable ;)

Pulled out a CD earlier - Black Rebel Motorcycle club - first album. Still has the old tagger on it = £13.99! :stalks: I wouldn't even contemplate in my wildest dreams paying that for a CD now. Must be 15 years ago or some that I bought it.

Upside-down speakers, bass driver at the top - yup, I agree with that one. (Tweeter in the middle of two larger drivers is OK though).
And those Castle Inversion speakers that had wider cabinets at the top than the base - OMG, yuk - I get dizzy looking at them!

Tannoy DCs - :hmm: nah, that's not illogical at all! :whistle:

Haha certainly not me wearing it ... The idea of it makes me feel really odd ...
On women I don't mind if it is very subtle, but when it's thick ... Horrible ... Lipstick on teeth is the absolute worst! There is a lady in my office block who always has it on her teeth... I got stuck talking to her in the lift the other day ... I thought I was going to be sick!!

Rattly and flimsy CD drawers... GAK!!

I had an AVI lab cdp once which I thought looked the biz but when I pressed open... POOOF! that was it... Why o why did (and still do probably) they make drawers open so badly... Pioneer have been slammed for this with one of their SACD players but can't remember which model.

This dislike came from cassette tape doors, I hated pressing eject and the cassette flew out nearly taking me head off. A bit like the Till in open all hours.

Amstrad to name just one along with Crown, Alba and Binatone in the 1980's... all cut back quality so much it was a joke.

I am however standing up to my Tannoys... I have to agree though that in stock form (crossovers especially) some Tannoy DC's can sound very dull and sometimes painful to listen too.

But give em some love and they will love ya back! - Best speakers I've ever owned.

Yes, I hate those as well, Andr'e, even though I have a few myself. I used to buy them primarily from Simon's Records in Tottenham Court Road (anyone remember them?). They used to specialise in such defaced stock, the result of overstocks, write-downs, liquidations and dodgy imports from the likes of Portugal where the pressing quality was always rubbish.

I had the NVA P90 with dual volume controls and found it very useful indeed!!! Wish i'd kept hold of it to be honest.
