Being quite old now i have a mixture of old Hi-Fi equipment dating back to the 1970s and a recent surround sound system linked to the TV.
I have found my old Pioneer PL-112D record deck ,serviced this ,and tried to connect it to a Harman Kardon AVR 160. This doesnt seem to have a dedicated analogue phono input. I tried it in the Tape input.No sound.Any ideas ? Do i need a phono stage? If so i would probably do better to buy a new deck.Any suggestions?

Hi Julian - welcome to AoS :wave:

I'm afraid you can't just connect your turntale to a line-level input such as the tape input on your AV amp - you'll need to add a phono stage to get your Pioneer working. A new deck won't really help as there are very few turntables with built-in phono stages, so you'd probably still be in the same boat as you are now.

You should be able to pick up a used Cambridge Audio phono stage or similar fairly cheaply - why not ask on here to see if anyone has something suitable they could sell you cheaply? Or you might look on eBay for an Angle Audio phono stage - these are good and not expensive.

What sort of music will you be spinning when you get your turntable up and running?

Here's a warm welcome to AoS from me.
Yes, you need a phono stage - Stan Beresford who's a member here does a very cheap and versatile phono stage - you might try one of those.
Once you've posted a few times on the forum, you'll be able to send him a private message to enquire. He may turn up here under his own steam of course! Other than that & the one's that Keith has suggested, I think Nad do a very cheap one too.

Apart from all that, what sort of music do you like to listen to and what does the rest of your gear consist of?
