I currently use the PS3 to stream music from the network via its optical out into a seperate DAC and it sounds pretty good to me. I have however read a lot on the forums about the SBT and how good it is. Has anybody compared the SBT against the PS3 as a transport and do I need one?:)
I appreciate the supposed ease of use arguments for the Touch but I can achieve adequate functionality on the PS3 using Serviio as a media server so this discussion is just about sound quality for FLAC files.

I have an older PS3 and I know the fan noise on mine would be an issue for music, perhaps the slim versions are silent?
For what you can get a Touch for on the price drops they are a no brainer, never compared the sound A/B.

The PS3 Slim is nowhere near as intrusive as the old "Fat" when it comes to fan noise and I have not found it to be an issue. I wonder if anybody has done an A/B for the two devices to determine which actually sounds better? I am trying to minimise the equipment connected to the DAC as I already have a SKY box, Bluray player and a PS3 connected to it.
Is there such a thing as to much gear?:)
I think the ps3 slim is pretty good as a cd spinner but when you load a cd onto the hard drive i think it does it to fast and wonder how accurate a rip it is.
