A sad, sad day. As each Apollo astronaut sets off on their final mission, a little piece of history goes with them. It was a time of such great hopes and dreams and I wonder if we will ever see its like again. I weep for opportunities lost... :(

The Moonlanding would never have happened if it weren't for Armstrong's grit and skill. The computer landing failed and it was only his pilots training that allowed him to pull it off. A true hero of exploration if ever there was one.

He was ! I remember the way he was so cool and calm as he landed , the controllers were clearly worried about the lack of fuel , but Neil was unfazed and then said ' the eagle has landed ' we didn't know at the time just how critical it was ? But you could see the relief on the faces .

You could certainly tell how worried Charlie Duke - CapCom at the time the touchdown on the moon happened - was. After Armstrong said "Houston, this is Tranquillity Base ... The Eagle has landed", Duke replied with something like "Roger that Twan, errr Tranquillity. You got a bunch of guys turning blue here. We can all start breathing again now - Thanks".

A true hero - RIP Neil A. Armstrong.
