An Awesome Wave by a band called AltJ. Quirky, different and superbly produced and engineered. They're going to be the next big thing.

Yeah couldn't agree more, it's almost sickeningly good! First listen, superb and it just gets better! I think I have listened to part or all of it every day for about a month!
Big favorite of mine!

Just to add ... If you like this, you may also like Grizzly Bear 'Veckatimest', and Wild Beasts 'two dancers' ... not quite up there with alt-j, but in a similar vein
Grizzly Bear 'Veckatimest', and Wild Beasts 'two dancers'
I like both of these, so will give them a go ;)

the whole album is best heard in the context of the rest of its self to be honest, but this is another fantastic one!

Got to be honest they are not doing much for me at the moment, but I will give them a look next Saturday as they are playing at End of the Road Festival ;)
I can see a Wild Beasts similarity though, who went down really well last year, so maybe these guys will too. Funnily enough, Grizzly Bear are playing the same day, how spooky is that!

That festival looks awesome again Tim, about 15 acts I'd be really keen to watch, and doubtless plenty of pleasant surprises! :)
I've only heard of Roy Harper and Robyn Hitchcock off that whole list. Am I getting old or an I just out of touch? I think I did security for Robyn Hitchcock once although memory from that time is understandably hazy :)

Tim I have seen Villagers and the Low Anthem but love to see Midlake and quite a few others there!

Great bill. I'm ancient but I've heard 16 of those. Must be getting young.
I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Thanks for the pointer, its always great to discover great music. I fired Spotify up, send the kids upstairs and am now enjoying the full album. Great music! I will check this thread regularly for more new gems.
Giving the alt-j album a try. Pretty good musically, but the singing is really getting on my tits. Why do I keep thinking of The Goon Show?

Thanks John I will, a new band for me. I am really looking forward to next weekend, the bands that play at End of the Road are exactly my type of music and it's only 20 minutes away!

Dylan is a true Genius. Good debut album as well
Checking this out now via spotify on my new travel rig, nexus 7 and my AKGs. Quite enjoying this, it sounds very autumnal. Perfectly suited to the dramatically changing seasons we seem to be experiencing or am I alone in being somewhat synastesic at times?

Didn't know that. Excellent though. So fresh.
There are several artists who have produced jaw-dropping debut albums. One that I particularly like is Sinéad O'Connor's 'The Lion and the Cobra' - Boy, is that one angry album.

I wouldn't dare tell my missus anything. I just ask her nicely. Aren't they all like that?

...initially ;)
My only problem is to get mine to stop listening to Alt-J, and get ready for the Grizzly Bear gig in 10 mins...have a good one :)

This may prove to be a contender. Strange SQ and only heard it on Spotify after reading it is no1. New Donovan or even Dylan? Obvious influences anyway. Better than the awfull Mumfords by far.

And now Mercury album if the year
This should send a message to the record industry that modern music doesn't have to be over compressed crap. Maybe this marks the end of the loudness wars.

The Mercury is voted for by the record industry, there's no public component.

I didn't say there was. Thank God. I wouldn't trust the public to vote on anything that's why we have that turgid X factor shite.
