Building up again

Hi all,

I managed to get my amp unpacked last night after ages in storage:) Having sold alot of my hifi over the past year,my Gyro/orb, ear 834p,croft series 7 I am now starting again with the left overs:lol:

Well heres some quick pics of the amp I'm on with sorting out my speaker cables in the next few days;)

Thanks guys, just got my cables out to put some new plugs on. My speaker stands will be coming out from under the bed today its like xmas seeing it all again lol...

The speakers I'm going to be using at the moment are neat petite 3s. Iv'e never heard them on this amp yet though....

Been using the Hyper 1.5 for years - don't think it's any better or any worse than anything else I've tried. I have some Tellurium Blue ready to demo in my system so will see how it compares ...

I will add some pics later, I have the amp warming up its been on about a hour now and its red hot. I have just downloaded some new music to my i pod which is my source, Il'l let you know how it goes as its the first time I have used a i pod in a system.

Hi Allen, thanks mate I will keep posted. I got the stand filler from ebay from a seller called chord2425, he's a great seller. I filled the stands about 2 yrs ago before I packed my hi fi away due to a move. I have to say the shot makes a huge difference in sound quality. I have used sand in the past too and this makes a big difference too, just make sure you buy dry sand though.

Found some on ebay , £30.00 a tub and I will probably need 4 to 6 tubs to fill my stands :stalks::stalks: Ruddy Nora

Looks like I will be buying some granite chippings or gravel :)

Filling stands to the brim is very rarely the best way to go. You'll often find that filling them up to about a third is all you need. This keeps the centre of gravity low - too much mass can kill the sound completely.

Interesting, I read that you normally want to fill them up to about 75% of the way, you ever tried this Wazoo (sorry don't know your real name).

Neil, which Partingtons you got mate? I've been eyeing that brand up for some time now!
How do they sound?

And have you tried sand before, is lead much better than it, pound for pound?

With really dense stuff like shot, I always found that I preferred it filled about to a third - I'd go a bit more with sand. When filling stands, my trick has been to weigh the material into balloons (the big, long ones), so that I could get the same quantity in both stands but be able to add or remove material to taste in handy known increments. The balloons allow you to do this while having very few voids between them. Don't put too much in each balloon, though.

I am using my I pod with the amp but the ipod has a volume on it, I just wondered if anyone knew what it should be set at. I cant really comment on the amp till I know.

The general rule of thumb is leave all digital sources up to 100% and use the amp.

I think the reason is at volume 'extremes' (low volume) you begin to lose bits, depending on the software you're using.

I would agree on digital controls, but if you are taking the signal from the headphone out of the iPod then it isn't digital - I personally go for about 80% as it feels "wrong" to me at 100% on the grounds it could be distorting, though I don't think I've ever noticed in reality...

(If it is out of the "iPod connector" volume makes no difference, it is just a line out.)
