try it, if it works for you - happy days! if it doesnt then fuck it... no harm in trying - you might be supprised... you might not ... but its worth a try - at very least it probably needs a good hover underneath your rack anyway!!!

I actually tried this today. The only thing I wasn't able to do is take my speakers cables off the ground sadly.

I feel there has been a subtle improvement in clarity, sounds slightly less muddled. It was easy to do as I just moved my rack further out from the wall.

Whether it's worth going to a lot of trouble to do if you are tight for space is another matter?

But seeing as it was free and relatively easy to do in my situation it was worth doing.

I'd like to try an experiment of connecting a house brick to an auxilliary input on the back of a preamp. I bet decoupling the brick from the floor will make an improvement (subsequently removing the brick altogether will be better still I'd expect!)

He wants to connect a brick to an aux input of hs pre-amp?? Wants to then try decoupling it from the floor (with spikes?) ...

... and then suspects it might sound a lot better if it's then removed altogether??

Then again, I suspect it might sound even better if the rotten tomato were removed all together.. as per the brick.

:wheniwasaboy: I used to mess around when I were a lad. All the tweeks going. I even believed some of them made a difference. Each and every one of them eventually went out with the bathwater.

So although I tend to mock the afflicted, I do understand why they play and realise that, as I have no doubt ad nauseum said in the past, music and hi-fi are two different hobbies.

These days, I rather enjoy listening to music, I have insufficient time to do much else now that I am retired, the wife seems to think that, as I am home all the time, I can do stuff entirely unrelated to what I would usually choose to do:scratch:

the ic would be rattling around inside, more than likely making contact, but I've yet to hear anyone say they have noticed a degradation in sound because of it. :scratch:

It does not work with tomatoes, but vintage ketchup may do the trick,but only a long at the ketchup is applied counterclock wise...

This is the most probable explanation, imho, too. It would be interesting to try with different types of ICs (solid core vs multi-stranded) to see whether it applies equally.
If the theory is good, then solid core cables should influence more.

The concept of the cable grounding vibration in the wall is, I would say, exceedingly tenuous. Assuming a UK brick wall, some vibration will inevitably exist, but over quite a narrow frequency range and at a very low amplitude. The tenuous bit is that touching a cable to it will ground that vibration.

I use Chord 'Carnival Silver Screen' In addition to the Cable itself they have an additional dual Silver foil & lastly a thick rubbery PVC which im assuming is to combat vibrations
