can I use mede8ter, as music server?

I need a server that I can use to store my music. I would like to rip my cd's without loss and also download high resolution tracks and store them. I have considered using a pc hard drive as a server but the literature out there is too much out there and its too complicated:scratch: for a non computer bofoon like me. I also think people have discussed the topic to the death and are not motivated to iscuss it further. so I'm considering a simple solution that would not leave a hole in my pocket, like mede8ter for instance. another solution I'm considering is the logitech squeezeballs:uhho:!!! :oops:, sorry! I mean squeezebox.

Start basic and run Foobar2000 on your existing computer.
Foobar2000 is free too.

You can use EAC to rip your CDs both losslessly and securely (ie as accurately as you can get).
EAC is also free.

Your computer should have a line out that you can connect into your existing audio system, and that gets you started.
If you want to improve on the quality you're getting then you could add an external DAC.

Having suggested all of the above, I've been a Squeezebox user for a good few years.

I'm currently running 2 Squeezebox Touch players.
One player is on wired LAN, the other is wireless.
I also have a Zyxel NSA310 2TB NAS running LMS (Logitech Media Server).

It is possible to run LMS on an ordinary computer.

I use dbPoweramp to rip CDs to FLAC.
dbPoweramp does what EAC does, but as a ripper it is more fully featured.
You can trial it for free, but ultimately you need to pay for it.
