I received my first Beresford dac today. A second hand 7510.

After opening the box it was clear that this unit had been modified.
The analog output op-amp was LM4*** (very small print). There were four 47 uf Nichicon Muse caps. On both sides of the op-amp small polyprop caps.

After reading about 7510 mods this must be the Mod 21.

The power unit is a light "Vanson" brand. My question is about a new power unit:

a) Should I try an old fashioned heavy transformer with little electronics
b) A modern laptop power unit

Which would bring sound improvements.

As long as it is a properly regulated linear power supply then you should get an improvement in sound quality.

A better power supply made a difference.

I am now using a proper DC 5 amp power supply. There is a trimmer inside to adjust voltage. I changed the voltage to 13.33 volts.

With the original small power supply the 7510 sounded like it added something to music. With the bigger supply we have a true hifi sound.

Beresford 7510 is better than Squeezebox Touch dac.
