I heard some music while watching the Olympics, Chariots of Fire for medals and Bowie's adequate Heroes every now and again
Wasn't aware playing someone else's choice of music was endemic

I play my own choice of music all the time and would miss it for sure

Recently heard they played 'rock music' *during* the 800 metres final !
Is this the modern equivalent of lift music ?

As far as I know 'Chariots of Fire' and 'Heros' are only played between events.

Like you, I was surprised to see/hear music being played during the 800m final. Not sure if the IOC would approve, but I suppose it is no louder or distracting than the spectator cheers. :rolleyes:

Glad to say I didn't hear it. The cheering was too loud - and what a race !
I think cheering is part and parcel.
I used to run and the spectator noise was fine

When I was in the blocks for the 220 (yes, I'm that old) at the Surrey Champs some bastard turned on a radio LOUD right at the last second. Certainly took a big edge of my performance and probably most others too

There was an article about it on the Today Programme on Radio 4 yesterday - apparently it's all about audience involvement. They were playing Chumbawumba when people fell over too. (....I get knocked down, but I get up again....)
