For sale, one of the nicest old Lencos I have come across. A near mint L70 dating from the 1960's. The deck is suspended in a solid English Maple plinth made by a master craftsman in SE England. Lacquered finish and fitted with IEC socket.

When I was first made aware of these idler driven decks I could not take them seriously owing to the look of the arm. MISTAKE  IMO these decks sound a whole lot better, more dynamic, than the LP12 I used to own. They are more flexible too and can play any type of record from 78's though to modern vinyl. Fit the arm with a Shure M3D and track at 2-4 g and you will be amazed at the performance with vinyl IMO.

Never mind about stock Lenco GL75's and 78's - these decks are rarer, have far more character and sound better IMO.

The arm has been serviced and re-wired with Cardas by Audio Origami. I'll throw in a new Ortofon GT cartridge for the price although my feeling is this arm is made for the M3D with vinyl at least. Main bearing has been serviced and upgraded. Metal idler.

More info can be provided. Pick up only from Reading not far off M4. Given plinth alone cost £200 I am looking for £350.

Cheers

Phil

Does this mean you're abandoning vinyl forever Phil?

That's a lovely Lenco Phil, probably one of the nicest I've seen in fact. Tragically I neither have the room nor the cash to give it a good home :(

Phil is now an expert on rebuilding these and polishing them up to a high standard. The Ortofon GT matches the arm well although the M3-D is "period."

One of those decks that makes modern "digital" sound weak and weedy ;)

Agreed Dave, no-one seems to really know why but these idler drives seem to have an incredibly gutsy sound, in other words "balls" :eyebrows: Digital can sound a bit thin by comparison.

As for me being an expert in renovation, not really. I can do the basics such as main bearing, replacing idler wheel, etc, but the key with this one was one little old lady owner (who hardly used it). I took a gamble and drove to Cambridge to pick it up. It was almost as good as new. I got the aforementioned work done to it, housed it in that wonderful plinth (originally designed for a GL78) and there you go :)

Believe it or not, I had a chap come over from Canada to pick up a Lenco from me yesterday - that's how hot Phil's Lencos are

It is just marvellous. I'm going to look for a Shure M3D for it based on your recommendation. I would buy your L70 in a heartbeat if I could get it home. Its worth every penny.
