Hi Chaps
Whats the best sounding Cr02 Audio Cassettes commercially available these days.I need a lot & don't fancy the long drawn out exersize of hunting down NOS 80's cassettes??

TDK SA's are pretty easy to find - Richer Sounds were selling them not so long ago...

Not as good as the SA-X, but then SA never was. But perfectly good compared withe the old SA, if you have a good deck tuned to them, or bias-calibration. Which deck do you have these days?

:lol: Bias-Calabration, im lucky this machine has Cr02 :rfl: Are the 'SA' the best they do these days without going Metal?

They're the best you can find without going NOS, IMO. There seems to be a real lack of tape anywhere at the moment :confused:

It's either that or buying bulk chromes and/or cobalts. I've ordered a bunch of both from National Audio Company (NAC) (http://nationalaudiocompany.com/). Quite good actually, if not "awesome". On my Sony TC-KA1ESa's, one of the two doesn't need much tweaking of the bias at all; can't remember which one. Their ferrics are ok. At least they seem on par with current day Maxell UR's.

Aye TDK SA's are all thats out there new..Pretty good though I use them for copying vinyl and the results are pretty good on my humble pioneer cassete deck.

Was there not a thing years ago where the 60 and 120 minute tapes were ok but the 180 minute tapes caused speed problems in some machines .

Yes - they'd stretch due to their thinness. To be honest 120-180 minute tape was only designed for one-shot recordings, and dictation. Only cheapskates'd use them for music :D

100 was okay. 110 was pushing it. Never had any luck with 120 and above and stopped trying in short order. Terrible sound and even worse durability.

The trouble with a C90 was that some albums ran 48 minutes so you had to miss the last tune (or part of it) off the tape. Stone Roses first LP is a good example of this, really annoying as the last track is the best one.

Gave my tape deck away years ago...

100 minute tapes were a fantastic innovation, and reliable in my experience.
