If you like bass and just all-round good tunes then a GREAT production is Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Anything by Massive Attack too I think "Mezzanine" and "Blue Lines" are the two best, fabulously produced stuff & great music too.

Not easy to answer tbh. A lot depends on what criteria you use.
If you are after as near to the original master recordings then anything by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs or DCC.

In general I agree with Neil, avoid re-masters. The good ones are very rare imo.

Just noticed the bit about bass. :)

This has got some excellent bass and it’s a good example of the proper use of dynamic compression to “bring up” certain instruments.
It’s also well recorded.

I was going to suggest Private Life - The Compass Point Sessions by Grace Jones. The strong treble hurts if the system ain't right but into a good system it's magical - what a lady, I'm terrified of her :)

I completely agree on Neil Young's "Harvest" -- what a marvellously recorded and mastered sound. I prefer the Japanese SHMCD remaster, so it's not that remasters are necessarily bad.

Buy yourself a copy of Genesis - A Trick of the Tail - Japanese pressing 32VD-1032.

The first track, "Dance on a volcano" has great bass power and depth.

Shelly Poole "Hard Time For The Dreamer". http://Youtube.com/watch?v=u0_IYmxakL0 Sounds unlike any other cd I have being Super-Duper Smoothe with Acres (acres) of depth. Don't know how it was recorded. Just a couple of decent tracks, however.

JPFM Band "S.F. Paris" http://youtube.com/watch?v=jW4_yDTOS6M Don't have cd just some mp3s which came pre-loaded on a media-player I got. Best-sounding mp3s I have. Some will say that's not saying much, but the sound really is quite impressive. It's the sort of thing a dealer might use as a demonstration disc. The sound on the youtube vid is poor however.

Yeah, MTV's Unplugged albums are great & capture the ambience of the live event. I just bought Neil Young's MTV Unplugged session - stunning.
