This chinese 845 SET is without doubt one of the best built and best sounding chinese amp.....it will just not drive my speakers (admitedlly inefficient) to the full extent. I think I am stuck with solid state unless I can find something suitably high powered. (KT88 push-pull? Ideas welcome!)
So I am putting this up for sale for £500 including the original Shuguang 845's. I also have a pair of Golden Dragon Premium Metal 845's for £140 so a choice of valves there. I think because of its weight, it will have to be collected or exchanged at one of the Fests.

Not at all, you're more than welcome to them. :)

Tempting as it is, I'd have to part with my WD88XL in order to afford it, and I'll probably end up regretting doing that.
Real life spare cash needs to be squirreled away to sort out my vinyl front end ATM, thanks to Empire going down the pan and taking a chunk of my cash with them! :(

I'll do a bit more 'chin rubbing' though....;)

Cheers...

Still tempted, may be time for a change. Decisions, decisions. Arrrrgh!

Don't know if you've heard the WAD 300bpse Mike, but the Liang comfortably outperforms it if thats any kind of benchmark for you. That kit as you know was the most expensive W(A)D have ever sold.

The only WAD300B I've heard was Tony's PP at Chester. Liked it a lot! :)

Mmm... Much as I rate the Liang (and think Mystical's will be worth the asking price) I'm not sure I agree with that statement - it's a bit too sweeping, Ali, and doesn't take into account all the variables.

However, a seller's thread isn't the place for a debate such as this :)

Marco.

P.S me too, Mike - lots with a capital 'L'!

The original WAD 300B PP is a very different animal to the WAD 300B PSE.

Indeed. Which one is Greg's and Tony's? Both are excellent!

Don't know about Tony's, but I am pretty sure Greg's is a replica of the original WAD push pull (not the monoblocks).:)

I don't know about Tony's either but for sure the 300B PP original design is what Greg's is. It's actually a clone but all the better for it.

Marco I owned the WAD 300b pse for several years,so not really a sweeping statement for me having had exensive experience with both amps.I also own a WAD 300b PP (original) and yes,it is a completely different beast.

Forgot to say, yes,Tony's and Greg's are the original PP.WAD also did a later version in monoblock form looking the same as the PSE.You could buy a conversion kit at the time to turn your PSE into a PP.

How much are you looking to spend on the power amp I really like my SAC KT88 Glowmaster It eaisly out performs my old Gamut D200 in every department but sure there are loads of others worth a try too

Thanks John...had a quick look at the SAC KT88....looks really well built but a tad pricey at £1700. At one time I was convinced that paying more meant better sound quality and wouldn't baulk at paying X grand for kit. My more recent experience especially after listening to some of the kit at Chesterfest and Owston seems to suggest otherwise!
Views anyone?
