Hi all,

just a little note to anybody re-finishing speaker, or other cabinets.

Try 'Sadolin Rapid' quick dry varnish in clear satin. Its water based and very easy to apply and if you follow the veneer grain whilst applying it gives a lovely sealed finish without looking "varnishy". I think it looks better than the french or white polish I used to use.

I've used this many times and had great results on every occasion, it also goes well on top of Rustins wood dye, another good product which has improved very much over the years.

The semi-matt finish of the dried Sadolin can be waxed to gived a really nice soft lustre, leaving you with what looks like a factory new finish.

If you want to see the results keep an eye on my thread: 'My new (vintage) Tannoy Cheviots', as the Sadolin is what I'm using. I'll be posting decent photos soon.

And folks, he was, erm, 'not bad' (a wee underestimation) at it, too! ;)

Don't worry, I've hand built, veneered and polished dozens of speakers cabinets and restored plenty of antique furniture, etc. I know how they will turn out. They will be very good!
