TDK and a biro, a huge part if youth spent with his two.
Highlight was recording Tangerine Dream 'Statosfear' and then copying the font onto my cassette label.
Used my Dads Rotel RD550, RX602 and Garrard Zero100sb with yes, wait for it ......Shure V15!

I presumed the connection was using a pencil to tension the tape (or rewinding it) - though I seldom bothered with either.

Actually it can be also used as an age test to determine whether or not you're an old luddite fart.
Think about it this way - the connection could be that both items are rewritable!

Curiously enough the one on the left always reminds me of Autocad 1.....

Yes I did, though I have to say I used my little finger to wind on the leader tape before I did any recording (were we poor and couldn't afford pencils or Bics).

No. But then I often don't put records back in their sleeves, or CDs back in their cases.

Why was it that car players always caused the worst jams, where the tape wrapped itself horribly around the idler wheel and you looked a right chump exiting the car with a streamer of brown tape following?

The heat in the car causing the tape backing / binder to break down, would be my bet.
Never happened to me because my cars were always full of 'ventilation holes' :)
You used to see yards of unwound cassette tape on every A or B road verge and hedgerow - now I know why! :lol:

I was given a tour around an extremely advanced waste management and recycling facility down south a little while ago. Despite the fact that it contains tens of millions of pounds worth of equipment to sort and sift through the waste in order to extract everything which is recyclable (stuff like eddy current separators, wind sifters, trommels and even the good old MkI eyeball), when a cassette or video tape gets in there, it immediately becomes totally unwound from its mechanism & stretches from one end of the plant to the other, wrapping itself round and binding up inside bearing housings left, right & centre. Tape is the biggest single cause of problems on the site!
You used to see yards of unwound cassette tape on every A or B road verge and hedgerow - now I know why! :lol:
yep - it used to be blowing from the trees like streamers. Not seen that in years, now.
