Well, after about 2 years on (and mostly off:lol:) of attempting to put together a Pass De-Lite (no pcb's here you know;)) I have finally got it working as it should (very slight mains hum still to sort). I won;t bore you with the frustrations encountered along the way. For such a simple circut it should have been plain sailing.

The amp uses IXYS Depletion Mode Mosfets and 300w 130 volt light bulbs as resistors.

Voltage is a single rail supply for each channel at 80v DC.

Now to make it pretty!

Presumably the lights are to enhance the listening experience, particularly if you're afraid of the dark ;) or is it to tell you that when one 'bulb' goes out you're listening to mono? :)

Wouldn't like to see your electric bill, 2 x 300w will send your meter going round like a carousel, :eek:
shame you can't get energy saver bulbs equivalents for that wattage, even then it would come in at 100w or something. :D

The circuit uses the bulbs as resistors. The voltage at the bulb drops by about half to around 45v.

Ahh.. i see, i am not technically minded but will the illumination flicker ocassionally depending on the draw from the mains at differing times of the day?,
lovely to look at all the same. :)

The cat is prone to sleeping on the dining table (yes, nice!) and jumps from windowsill to table. As I was about to take the pics I thought that I would get a wiggle on and move the thing a.s.a.p!

Yes, you could. In fact Paul Hynes SE1 (which uses two FETS per channel) runs off 12v:)

It sounds very nice. I know "nice" is a crap term to use, but this is just initial impressions with not ideal speakers (my test rig of old wharfedale diamonds).

It is only a few watts per channel and will give it a go with my Fostex horns. Still got some hummmmmmm to sort.
