...comes home to roost, well done Alexander Vinokourov on his Gold, what a fitting send for the gutsiest bravest of the brave rider, only question is hope he won it clean. :champagne:

Team GB looked a spent force after their TDF efforts, such as their reputation and Cav being the firm favourite, other countries where always looking for them to do all the work, not to be for Cav but hopefully next time.

Cav was simPly the wrong rider to support today. There was no way any other team would
Contribute to GB's efforts and similarly no way the team could drag back a 30 rider break on their own. A tactical balls up from the start. It'll be interesting to see if Cav stays with Sky beyOnd the terms of his current contract as they are stifling his success.

Spot on Si, with a breakaway that size it was always difficult and with no help from other teams....impossible.

It was refreshing to see racing without telemetry, back to the good old days with relaying info forward with whatever means and a wee blackboard with time gaps. :carrot:

Indeed, once Cancellara, L. L. Sanchez, Vinocourov et al got across to the breakaway, GB should have sent someone (Millar?) up the road as insurance. The effort involved has probably cost Wiggo any chance he had of gold in the time trial on Wednesday too. Hope I'm wrong. Anyway, here's hoping the women's road race goes better (for Lizzie Armitstead?) later today.

Been watching replays time and again, (must admit i watched Badminton for most part of the day switching back and forth ocassionally), it looked like we had it in control till the last lap, having to drive the pack for so long and with the brutal climb softened the team and when the decisive moment came, we were running on empty, don't know going about it with a stage race mindset is the proper one, all if and buts in hindsight.

Must say these one day races tend to favour a strong hard as nails, all or nothing Classics rider, they'll keep trying all day long and go with breaks after breaks, eventually one will be decisive as witnessed yesterday, without a doubt Vino came into that category, nice to see the wiry old fox out foxed the dopey Uran. :D

C'mon the girls !!!
