Well, I finally received my Yamaha GO44 music interface which I intend to use primarily for recording my vinyls onto my Macbook HD but was unable to try it out īcos I havenīt got the right cables for connecting it to my amp. It uses a firewire cable between itself and the Macbook but does the fact that it is basically a pro audio product mean it uses a sort of mono phones jack sized plug instead of RCA phonos. It also says they are "balanced" analogue input/output sockets. Can I knock these cables up myself ? perhaps using some screened avionics cable I have ? Does balanced entail connecting the screen to the core or am I being ignorant again ?

I assume it will be standard TRS jacks, but you will have RCA sockets?

Usually T = Tip = + , R= Ring = - , and S = Sleeve = Ground.

Tip is the very end, ring the bit behind it and the long part the sleeve of such a jack.

You have to use a shielded two core cable of stranded copper, with a woven shield, wiring the ground/sleeve and the -/ring together usually for feeding a balanced input, so in your case the ground may be preferable floating, IE unconnected screen at the amp input end, giving you a pseudo balanced cable?

Edit, you can see such a config in the pdf download that the Alesis website provides for the RA-500 amp.

And you can get such cables from Dolphin, one example but not I think suited to your balanced out config,

More pics here of wiring,

Of course this guy may be able to make up a cable,

Or these, not sure if they have balanced TRS?

Of course you may get good results from using a transformer, single winding on the primary and dual output on secondary? Not too sure on the wiring and process?

I had the same inputs on my Alesis M1 mk2 active monitors, I used one of these on each channel (despite it being a tip + sleeve connector rather than a tip + ring + sleeve) and the result was fine.
