Advice please! Looking for the best player to install on the TFS. It runs Win7. I have tried some trial versions in the past and had difficulty playing the new Star Wars box set because of the copyright. Is there a player that will overcome these kinds of issues?

Ali, you could try VLC.... http://lifehacker.com/5806252/how-can-i-play-blu+ray-discs-on-my-computer if you if you did not have a player bundled with the drive....
I get a mate of mine to shrink them from all the crap into a more compact and universal form to transfer onto the hdd.

Thanks Bob, yes have that on my laptop, but it wouldn't play the Star Wars discs. Was having a scout around and AnydvdHD looks good. Not cheap though. Anyone tried it?

It is just about the 'standard' ripper there is :)

21 day free trial so plenty of time to try before paying anything.

ach just download the boxset at 1080p...
(you already have bought it...) ;)

Seriously though, VLC should play just about anything, DVD boxsets included.
If any problem theres a great open source community that should have the fix.

the "only" problem with VLC is the lack of support of hardware acceleration for most formats

Theres a GPU decoding tickbox in the options though?

Have been talking to Jason who has completed the installs on the new SSD for the TFS. I'd bought powerdvd ultra 12, so I gave him the key to reinstall it. He could not get it to play the Star Wars BD correctly, so has given me a full version of powerdvd ultra 11, which strangely plays them perfectly. Anyhow, all sorted now, thanks for the advice chaps. Hopefully the SSD will arrive tomorrow so I can fit it in time for Saturday.

Nearly sorted out then Ali, hope it all pans out to schedule, curry etc included...

Re Star Wars issues - The media industry have a lot to answer for screwing around with security etc.. I often wonder if they are actually doing more damage to BD equipment and media sales than if they stuck to a fixed format.
Pretty sure that the Pirates look upon such things as a minor inconvenience, but for some households software/firmware updates may be impractical or inconvenient, and deter purchase to nobody's advantage.

Cheers, me too.

Yes, they have a lot to answer for. If I've paid for the discs, I expect to be able to bloody well play them!
