In Milwaukee, hello, looking for gear!

Hi, I'm Andy. I teach guitar in the Music Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I've been listening to vinyl more since my father gave me his old Harman Kardon turntable and receiver. I've been enjoying it so much that he recommended I look for some nice 70s gear. What I'd really like to find at the moment is a Transcriptor Skeleton or Hydraulic Reference tt. I'm also looking for a Marantz receiver from the 70s.

If anybody had any of these things that they'd like to sell and they are willing to ship or are somewhere near the midwest so I could drive and pick them up I'd love to hear from you. I'd like to find these things in as close to mint original condition as possible. I'm looking to pay close to what fair market value is on these items, and I'm well aware of what they are going for. Sorry Andrew - if you read the bits about joining the forum you will have seen that you are asked to make your first post in the Welcome area, introducing yourself and a few words about your kit and tastes in music. Usually when new members omit this step one of the Mods (aka First Post police ;) ) rush in to remind you of this requirement.
No great sin and soon put right :) - they're usually quite lenient :lol: .

I guess I'm thoroughly confused then, because I thought this was the welcome area. Though my introduction was brief, so is my audio setup, I basically listed everything I have with the exception of the two small infinity speakers that are hooked up to the receiver.

My tastes in music are narrow, I listen to solo guitar stuff since that is what I do, i.e. Fahey, Kottke, Hedges, Reinhardt, Pass. I like tango though too, Piazzolla and similar.

Thanks so much for the welcome and for pointing out the Reference. Though it does look nice it is indeed priced a bit higher than what I have been seeing lately.

I understand these Transcriptors aren't necessarily known for their great sound quality, but I am infatuated with their aesthetics and would love to have one. Glad to hear from all of you so far

Whilst it may be true that they aren't now rated highly sonically, the Hydraulic Reference turntables were nicely engineered. And when I replaced my Thorens TD150 with the HR back in the 70s, everyone commented that it sounded better, which was near heresy back in those days. And it looked great. nuff said.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody. I drove about an hour last night and picked up a 70s Marantz 2245 receiver and boy is it beautiful and it sounds really nice too. If anybody has any recommendations for speakers that would work well with the output of the receiver I'm all ears.
