New exit cable

Its time for a new exit cable for my Thorens TD150 and SME 3009R. The SME one I have isn't that good and it's in really bad shape.
I need some suggestions for a new one? Needs to be pretty flexible as not to upset the Thorens suspension and I don't really want another SME one. Ideally less than 100 quid.
The 3009R has RCA sockets. Ideas please gents!

Any good low capacitance and not too chunky cable should do fine. The Van Damme Pro Patch microphone cable is perfect for this, the two inner conductors being the main signal cables per channel and the outer screen wire connected at one end, usually the amp end and with a separate thin stranded earthing wire connecting sub-chassis to top plate to arm and then to the amp. I'm sure there's better out there, but not so the SME will worry in all honesty. I use it, and don't find a desperate need to change to summat fancy :)

Dress the cable a la LP12. I found this works and a mains plug style clamp on the plinth around half way along works for me.

+1 Using the VD Tour microphone cable on my PL-71 in balanced configuration, very good for the price and very flexible. Buy off eBay or Maplin as you don't need much...

The pro patch is similar in terms of conductors but thinner and even more flexible. They "sound" very similar. Try ProAudioShop on ebay for either of them :) and shill that I am accused of being, hifi Dave has a drum of blue VD mic cable and will happily sell you some for a fair price I'm sure..

Thanks for your replies. Unfortunately I'm hopeless with a soldering iron...tried to make my own interconnects before and it wasn't very successful.
Any off the shelf cables that are suitable?

I think AO Johnnie´s external cable is Van damme based. He´ll do you one, I´m sure.

Is the 3009R equipped with phono sockets? if so, it'll be a doddle to replace. You could continue to use the earthing flying lead(s) that SME supplied.

The cheap VD Tour grade cables we've suggested are available ready made with phonos for well under twenty quid. I've used Rick at Soundstable and he's made custom things up for me in the past at very fair cost when I didn't or couldn't do it myself. Although he doesn't advertise the pro Patch cables, he does have the stuff and I'm sure he could rustle summat up at reasonable price should you ask him nicely :)

Good luck anyway. the SME cables have little capacitors in them usually to liven up Shures and suchlike. However, the phono equipped set I have do sound a bit dead and closed in. Could be age, the caps which are still there, but with the arm you have, the world is your lobster sir :lol:
