View Full Version : BT Mains Conditioner question.

I acquired a 2 socket brand new one of the above (2 x 0.5A outputs) yesterday and tried it out last night, using just one socket. Difficult to be certain but it may or may not have improved the SQ. However, of more concern to me is its own power consumption. It replaced a Belkin PF40 in my set up (just for this trial :) ) which remains at room temperature in operation but the BT Conditioner got quite warm. I interpret heat generation in electrical gear as meaning power is being wasted by being converted to heat so does anyone have any idea how much is being added to my leccy bill just by using this thing? The power consumed by the kit downstream will remain the same so I'm only interested in the extra expense being caused by the heat produced by the conditioner - anybody any idea?

Ive got a single socket one of these , I use for my phono amp only, it seemed to compress dynamics on my amp. mine does'nt get hot i have to say , but in terms of electricity its pennies per day on standby and not a lot in use .

Hi Dennis,
I wouldn't think your phono amp consumed much power, which might explain why it doesn't get warm - mine gets quite warm, but not hot, and it was running my HTPC, MF X-10 clone buffer amp, 2 x Mini-Ts and an RC source selector.

True enough Dave , but i have used it for all equipment at one time and i seem to recall it did'nt make a noticeable difference to electricity bill. if you look inside its a transformer and some capcitors noting much else .

Dave, according to what you say, the max output of that filter is 1A. If you are running all that kit from it I'm pretty sure you will be dragging more than an amp. You're using it beyond it's rated capacity, no wonder it gets warm.

I wondered if that might be the problem :) - actually it was all being pulled from one socket only so presumably 0.5A max output, long term?
I guess I shall have to rethink whether it has any real application for me, given the fact that I have a PF40 that I'm perfectly happy with. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which individual piece(s) of kit it might be particularly suitable for?
Alternatively, anybody want to make me a good offer for it?

On the back, it states 5A. (may be wrong on the 5A) It never got warm when I used it (now in the loft) though it wasn't supporting a heavy load..
