Jon Lord RIP..

Just heard the sad news that Jon has succumed to Cancer..71 years old. His signature Hammond sound was unique back in the day. He will not be forgotten.:(

Very sad news indeed :(

I saw him when he was with Whitesnake in the mid 80's (1984 I think) still mostly the old members but with John Sykes on lead guitar. This was one of the best rock gigs I have ever been to with fantastic keyboard solos from John and with Cozy Powell on drums doing a solo to Mars by Holst, it was a night that brought the house down.

Another great musician has gone but his legacy won't be forgotten.

Machine Head from DP was one of the first album i used to listen to over and over in the 7o's which made me a rock fan when most of my friends listened to Bonny M and Abba. It is a great loss.

If like me you think Child in Time was not just one of the greatest rock tracks, but one of the greatest pieces of music ever, then you too will feel this loss keenly. Many years ago when i was working at the Rainbow in London, Purple played there and I met Jon and realised what a great talent he was, as a player and as a composer.

In 69 I was, as a kid, at the premier of Concerto for Rock group and Orchestra at the RAH and was totally blown away, as at the time I thought I was the only person who liked classical an rock, blues, etc.

The world of music has lost a great and original talent and a real gentleman, I was fortunate to meet him on several occasions and share a brew with him.

I was first introduced to Deep Purple in 1970 as my sister looking after her angelic five year old brother, suffice to say her boyfriend at the time has acquired some tickets to see Lord and Co the proviso was she would go as long as I could :lol:

During the early 80's I found myself playing football with half of Purple and Iron Maiden in a hotel car park in Holland at 4am in the morning!
After losing to a very dubious Blackmore goal, we headed for the bar were Mr. Lord was very courteous and statesman like, even for wee early hours and copious amounts of alcohol consumed!

Very few musicians drew the respect Jon Lord attained, a sad loss to music.
